you should sand down the reflector area to give the paint better adhesian.

also keep in mind that painting the reflector area of your headlights will DECREASE your lighting. the reason the stock ones have all that plasti-chrome is to reflect light which black does not do.

the aftermarket headlights that have black surrounds are projector style headlights. which means the light is never meant to reflect off of the housing.

so if yer doing this to stock lights expect a DECREASE in light intesity. also expect that you will not re-seal the housing properly and this will lead to that wonderful "condensated look" that everyone loves
