Winterization topic #2... oil...
I too am preparing to semi-winterize my car, but seeing as how I live in the south there isnt much that needs to be done. All I plan on doing is getting some sort of oil warmer... I dont have time in the mornings to let my car run 5 minutes before I leave for school, and it takes about 7 minutes to drive to school, and for those 7 minutes I hate my oil being cold because 90% of engine wear occurs when your engine is cold... anyways, how can I warm my oil within say 1 minute? Ive heard of little heating pad type devices that you strap to your oil pain and wire to your ignition... can anyone elaborate on this or other oil-warming ideas for me and possibly provide links to helpful websites/products? Thanks

i've heard of block heaters.. where the engine block gets heated.. but thats for when its really cold, and regular engine start up is impossible

i know back in romania during the rally cold winter days the truckers used to heat the oil pan with a blow torch. it used to get so cold at times that the oil will be almost solid

what i usta do when it would get REAL cold here (under 45) was turn my car on before i got in the shower, then changed and left for school, so my car would be all toasty inside when i got to it 5-10 mins later

i really don't worry about it. just let it idle for 30 seconds to a minute and you will be fine. everything warms up in the engine, it's just the thermostat that doesn't open yet to have some reading on the gauge.

I heard of a coil or something you could mount in your radiator that works on the same principal as a toaster. Don't know if it works, but it makes sense. The only problem is it runs off of ac.

yeha he's right, your oil heats up in like 30 seconds, but your engine isnt full temp for a few mins untill the coolant can circulate a few times getting the heat all in it
