I've been looking on www.airforce.com lately and i know that i wanna do something that has to do with flying..
I was looking around, and i found this... Aircraft Loadmaster Apprentice As a Loadmaster Apprentice, you will perform your duties during extensive trips to all areas of the world. You will be responsible for supervising the loading and unloading of cargo, vehicles and people on the airplane. Your duties will include mathematically preplanning the correct placement of the load on the airplane, providing passenger comfort and safety, securing cargo and taking part in airdrop operations. You will be on flying status as an Aircrew member and required to fly with the aircraft. This sounds like something i could do well...does anyone know anything about this position...like requirements for it...or some other stuff like that... pay doesn't really matter for me...I just wanna know what the requirements are...how long you work at a time...places to get to fly to...stuff like that... Any help is appreciated.

pfft...contacting is so overrated....
i dunno...there are people already in the AF here...so i thought i'd try and see if i could get some info from some HS members first... Then i'll contact them...recruiters suck...lol

There are generally C17s, C130s (which I am on), and C141s which are pretty much dying or dead. If you are prone to motion sickness it will be hard to adjust to because low level flight is rough. Depending on the type of load for the airdrop (container delivery system, heavy equipment, training bundle, or troopers) you have to show up a certain amount of time before the mission starts (typically 1-4 hours), then fly a 4-6 hour mission. They are long days... you fly about 3 times a week, and those days work out to be 12-14 hour days at least. Your training would be here at Little Rock AFB, and I would suggest calling here and talking to someone about what the training entails. |

I'm pretty sure a loadmaster works on high flying and low flying cargo planes. If you decide to settle down with a wife that job is probably going to suck, since you're flying around all the time, probably also true if you want to do some college.

And he said that when he was serving, The army was the only service that guarentees where you will be working... like...when you sign up, you know exactly what you'll be training for and where. Is it still this way...i don't wanna get screwed. I Don't wanna go into the AF to do one thing...but then end up doing another...

Loadmasters are also on C5.. forgot that one.. and yes there are high level platforms.. even if you don't get motion sick, you WILL hurl in the back of a 130 at 300 feet AGL. I would suggest a C5 maybe.. I forget if they even do low level.. I think they would be all high level, and that would rock.. only problem is they can fit a lot of shit.. you will be working hard loading that thing. Same with the C17.

So do you know what you'll be training for and where you'll be working when you sign on?

I think now the AF is the only ones who will guaruntee what you'll do. But I know they do it, thats how i went in.

Well, if i do end up going in the AF i wanna be a loadmaster...none of the other jobs really seemed appealing to me...
And what exactly is "Open General"?

Its basically saying you dont have a definite job and they'll let you make a list of jobs you like in basic training and if they need people in one of them then you'll go into it. More than likely they'll just stick you where the AF needs you. All you need to know is DON'T DO IT! NO MATTER WHAT ANY RECRUITER SAYS!

Yeah, i would never do that...
My dad also said something about being a loadmaster in the army(He's biased towards Army). But i know the living conditions are a lot worse in the army than the AF...i just wanted to make sure i would be guarenteed training where iwanted it before i made the decision to sign on the dotted line...

you'd be gauranteed training in what job you wanted, but the school is wherever its at, you cant choose where you are trained only what you're trained in.

my dad just said something about how they put you wherever they want to or something...As long as i train in the job i specify.

There may be cool jobs and stuff....and i'd love to do them...but i'm really not cut out for them...
whats PJ though...don't know what that is...And i pretty much just wanna do something that has to do with flying... I love anything that has to do with flying...

And Mobbo, PJs are the special forces of special forces. Nothing compares not even SEALS. Harder to be a PJ than a SEAL. You could be a combat controller....TAC P is a lot of fun I heard. TAC P calls in a lot of air strike stuff too.. similar to forward batle controllers. Just look into lots of stuff. Flying is fun, somtimes at least... but they are really hellacious days. Not trying to steer you clear of flying, but it's just not the stuff you se in the movies. Flying will be the most anal retentive part of the service. |
