hp racing exhaust

a friend of mine asked me about the quality of hp racing catback exhaust for his EX. And since I have no idea maybe someone here does. The whole setup costs less than $400 at Nopi (where he saw it). I dont want the kid to get ripped off but I mean there really cant be anything WRONG with the setup right?

when i got rear ended i had a new exhast put on. I went to midas or tuffy and them put their performance muffler on and ran 2.5 pip back from the res. the muffler sounds nice and deep it is a little loud but it doesn't sound high pitched and "ricer" like some of the exhast ive heard around town. the whole thing cost like 150.

sounds like a pretty decent deal but he has a thing against the local midas :o . I dont know why he hates em though. So he was planning on running the whole thing himself (hes got minor experience with exhaust from helping out with his dads 'vette)

as long as the piping is mandrel bent with a straight-through muffler, it'll be fine. The only thing to look for is fitment and quality of the materials. I prefer stainless steel for my ish. And some poorly designed exhausts have the mufflers placed offset in the bumper hole -- which is no good -- or they're placed too far beyond the bumper, etc. also, the piping sometimes doesn't line up. I've never seen an HP Racing exhaust, but i know their intakes are alright.

I guess I'll tell him to call nopi and ask about it then. See what the quality is

If you believe in the saying, "you get what you pay for", then the quality of this exhaust is less than the quality of systems made by Thermal R&D, HKS, Greddy, Apexi, Tanabe, DC sports, ect.

I am a big fan of buying a free flow muffler and having midas bend some 2 1/2" pipe... same performance gains, more styles of mufflers to choose from... and it's a whole lot cheaper.

Well I had to call nopi today (of course he cant do it:o )
They said it was mandrel bent stainless with a straight through design. They tech also said its just better quality than you can get from Midas/Mineke/Tuffy custom and OBX catback (without the deafening sounds). Also told me that its very slightly under the performance of the big names like DC but the same build durability.

So I guess for the low price its a pretty damn good exhaust.

oh and its 2 1/4 diamiter too (same as Tanabe Racing Medallion)

Pipe, Quality... come on... so your $400 2.25" pipes fall off in 10 years, and my 2.5" fall off in 9 years... I still paid $180 less. My freind spent $550 on a 5-zigen fireball for his 240, the dumby didn't let me install it, paid Midas $100 to install it , and it didn't even fit to good, it rubs up against a peice of his frame and rattles.

Of course if the guy bending the pipe isn't too good, then it could come out a little whack.... My guy was dope, he got all the pipe right below the heat sheild, and the muffler is dead on where I told him to put it .

My vote is still custom bent !

For $400 I'd get an Apex'i WS, or save a little bit more and get a Greddy. They have some great deals on groupbuycenter.

apexi ws hangs too low it always rubs...at least thats the word on the...streets...litterally. I told him to just get an evo but he doesnt listen and just wants the thing now. I'll see what I can do to convince him to go with either the custom by Midas (like that will happen) or save more and go with Greddy Evo
