nasty heatshield
the heat shield for my headers is getting pretty nasty and i wanna paint it black maybe just to make it look a lil cleaner. However, i dunno what kind of paint to use... i doubt that normal black spray paint would work.... or would it?

go to autozone and get the engine paint. It will withstand the heat
*edit* nevermind i hate autozone they suck, go to advanced auto parts instead. |

get high temp paint, dosnt matter where u get it from really, just take the heatshield off and put a few thin coats on.

be sure to prep the heat shield first.....degrease that badboy, a light sanding would be good so the paint sticks....more thin coats of paint, not less thick coats.....and do you want it shiny or no? id use flat black spray paint if i were you.....i feel like painting mine now

Ya i did it. it's easy on mine there were 4 bolts holding it on (for the front heat shield, i didn't bother to do the rear heatshiled yet as you cannot really see it)
sanded it off REALLY good. I mean down to bare metal and where there were rust spots i sanded down as much as possible. then like they all said use HIGH TEMP paint i used duplicoat's ENGINE PAINT. do light even coats and allow them to get tacky in between coats. allow it to air dry for as long as you can (the longer the better... i got ancy and tried putting it back on early and even with delicate handling i ended up screwing up the bolts and a small part of the heatshield.) take yer time it'll come out looking good. (although im a little disappointed with the black it came out looking a little opaqueish) |

hey, you don't happen to have some pix of the end result of this project do you?
i'd love to see how it looks when finished, even if you aren't too happy with it the heat shield on my 92 LX is about as ugly as they get thanks Sean |

im not totally happy with it. theres one spot where the paint ran a lil b/c i got a lil impatient. so im gonna sand a lil bit of it back down and repaint that spot |

looks better than a rusted heat shield though
did you just use spraypaint then? i'd like to see what it looks like once you get it back into the engine bay... if you have a picture of it good luck with it Sean |

I painted my headshield and headgasket umm its 3am stfu Valve Coverbut I painted it white....
....gah yea my head gasket is painted also...its painte type-r race ready it added 10hp! .... now theres a few problems in this WHITE IS HARD TO KEEP CLEAN! lol so keep that in mind :-D Heres a pic I'm a VERY impatient person so ...the paint wasn't Quality A ... Strut Bar is removed...peeps kept telling me it was on backwards...I couldn't put it on any other way..if it stuck straight up hood wouldn't close...so I just kept it on for a while longer and it bent :-D APC RULES lol |

you paid $4 for the paint?? Geez I got some high temp black BBQ paint at K-Fart for less than $2! I put it on the exhaust resonator (the exhaust I sold) and planning on the heatshield too.
