Type R Vs 1990s Civic

I mentioned this briefly over on the "New kid on the block" forum but It's probably more apropriate to this board.

I am looking to invest in a civic in the next few months but I can't make up my mind what route to take. EIther a new Type R (European Market) or an older mid-late 90s model and put a few thousand into mods.

How would you spend your money ?

well exactly how much do u have to spend...the type R would be real nice..but would hurt ur pockets...if u invest into a older one..that u might be able to afford..and maybe pay cash for..you can always make it just as fast and nice as a type r...it just depends what u have to spend...

Sorry I should have mentioned this. I would be looking to buy on a lease or finance option of some sort if I was to buy the Type R.

However If I bought Older, I would go down the personal loan route, spend half on vehicle and half on mods.

So lets say the Type R is 16,000 UKP.

I would hopefully spend less (say 13,000) on an older model and mods.

The more I think about it, the more an older model seems to be more suitable. what trim level should I look at to maximize my modification options? (remember I'm in the UK where we haven't even heard of the SiR)

Cheers

im not familiar with the UK trim models....you have like VTi and stuff like that? damn, im lacking in the UK department.

i personally would go with more of a 96ish civic and go ahead and mod that. can make it fast w/o a problem and they just look good.

yeh thre VTi would seem to be the best specced engine aside from the Type R.

I quite fancy the coupe design and the idea of geting my hands dirty modding it myself, so I think I'll go for the older model. Also with moving to Canada being a posibility, it would be easier to buy second hand and not get into a lease agreement for a 3 year term etc...

Thanks for all the pointers
