When does VTEC kick in?

I was wondering if anyone can help me with this.... when does the VTEC kick in on a stock D16 '94 Civic EX? I hear different things from different people. Thanks

Hmm.... it's either 5000 rpm's or 5500 rpm's ..

So now you've heard different things from one person.

Hehehe. Thanks for all your replies 4jacks. 5000 rpm? That's high. I always thought it was around 3500 rpm. I usually shift at 3500. No wonder I feel like I'm going slow, even though I'm driving a manual.

yeah it's meant to be high... You see it optimizes How far open the valves are from low rpms to high rpms. It's like you only have two settings Vtec on and Vtec off... or High Rpms and Low rpms... I was reading how BMW is coming out with something called Valve-tronic that will blow all the competition out of the water, it has many many different settings.

i thought vtec was just suppose to keep the cars power at a higher rpm instead of dropping off. therefore it wouldnt kick in til a high rpm range.

AzN4LiFe86 brings up a good point. Does anyone know if this is true? Or do all VTEC engines kick in at the same time. I'm still getting a lot of different answers But thanks everyone.

Just flipping through c&d articles, etc, I see different points for different vtec engines. Haven't find a chart of the different engines and stock vtec points yet...
