You'll probably be smoked... just out of curiosity, do you have much "spirited" driving experience? I ask b/c I hate it when kids just get their license, go race, and wreck...

hahaha you will probably lose how far you racing?you might have a quicker accel. then maxima you might win with the mods and a quicker accel. you will still have less ponies but if you get ahead of him in the begining it might take a while for him to catch up to bc your hps might be pretty close to each other understand?

FWIW: The 1998 Maxima had 190hp stock, not 255.
I still think you will lose if he is a 5-speed, but not by too much. Good luck, and let us know how it goes. |

94_Accord_ex : Ya, one of my friends dads use to race carsand he's been teaching me alot. He let me drive his old triumph TR4 last week, that was pretty fun. I might be going to a like advanced driving course this summer for racing, i love driving. So no im not one of those kids who gets a car and just races it to be cool. Id rather be ot on a track than drag racing down a street.

HKSaccord, that's cool, I respect people who get some skills before they go crazy. So you're going to race him at the track? Even better...

I raced a maxima once... a friend of mine has a '98Maxima GLE... we raced for 1/2 mile... I got the jump because of my AWD, but from there on out it was a very even race... he started closing in around 70mph, but once I hit 90 I left him crying... we both have automatics so driver skill was not a factor... unless you find it difficult to press a lever down and hold a wheel straight

255hp? not necessarily bc maximas have 222hp and first of all.. if you have a vtec model.. you will def keep up with him in a short range race... maximas haul ass doesnt kick in until about 4 min after your ahead of them. Keep in mind those cars are heavier. I raced one on the highway. i was going 114 and i was just shifting to 5th. They have balls yea.. but u wont be too far behind.. maybe even right aside of him. if its a short distance race. Esp if he has an automatic. and double clutch it.. or u'll lose! Trust me! |

He's racing a 98 model Maxima, which has 190hp. I think the Maxima would actually do better in the short range due to it's better torque curve and wider tires. The Accord would fare better as the race got longer, giving it the opportunity to use it's top-end. FWIW, double clutching is a concept for which I have yet to see a practical application. I don't think it works to accomplish anything in a race. |

fwiw i have done it.. during a race to see if it actually does give u better time it does if you have a vtec. ask anyone who drives a prelude or vtec model.. esp when i drove my friend rx7 turbo... and as a matter of fact.. i think it will be a good race.. esp if the kid is driving an auto.. since he has so much more stock hp then the accord.. ya kno what i mean

How is taking an extra tenth or two tenths of a second to accomplish manually what a double-synchomesh gear system does automatically gain time and power?
The last time, and only time I had to double-clutch for more power was in a 70-something UHaul van full of furniture that didn't have enough kick to make it up a freeway offramp. Max |

I got lighter rims and lower profile tires to improve my gearing... my speedometer is probably a little off from downsizing 2" on the tires, but people riding in my car have clocked me at about 7.1 seconds 0-60... I know my car is slow as crap but its fun, REALLY spacious in interior/back seat
