Need some ideas..

My civic has a factory tweeter kit in it already. Im wanting to get a component set to go in the front. Im wanting to mount the tweeter from the component set in the place where the factory tweeter sits.. Has anyone done this yet? If so what all did you have to modify?

well if its already got factory tweet locations it shouldnt be very hard at all. figure out how to remove them and then replace them with the aftermarket tweets. with seperates you'll hafta play with the wiring to get both parts to the crossover. **Should** be an easy transformation. the aftermarket tweets should be able to be installed flush or surface mounted you'll just hafta see how it fits best.

I hope this doesn't jack your question RR, but maybe will add some info. (Assuming your tweets are mounted in the dash?)

When I was in my local stereo shop, I talked to them about getting some Boston components. They told me if I wanted good sound, I'd have to mount the tweets in the door, and screw the factory location in the dash... any truth to this?

wellllll.... the tweets are hard to control when they are pointed to the glass. (glass is curved, makes things go the wrong way.) the best location i have seen/heard is on the a pillars but thats a tricky install. sorta like installing gauge pods.. so if youve done those tweets there shouldnt be too hard for ya. where on the door are you talking about? kick panel? if so you are better off just getting a high end coaxial. if its up in front of the controls on the handle that could work but i wouldnt suggest it sounds decent but the install is a bit harder. best spot is on the pillars but easiest is on the dash in the factories. if your not planning on competing dash should be fine.

Thanks for the reply Maxvla... I'm not competing at all, just tired of the nasty stock sound. I was talking about putting them in the top of the doors... but I'd rather just stick them in the dash at first and see if I like them.

Now if I could only find the security CD for my Eclipse deck... I haven't been able to listen to it for two weeks

i think you will find the difference you are looking for just getting better tweets. makes a biiiiiig difference.

do not put them at the top of the doors....
that will totally screw up your sound floor. you will have highs from above and everything else from below. it will sound terrible. trust me. best sound floor is right at ear level but that is very hard to do especially the front speakers (cones, not tweets) because of the size of space you need.

I've done the operation on a 99 SIR.

Depending on the size you get, you'll be able to fit them in back..

Most probably you'll have to remove the mesh though, cause you'll really be cutting it close in mounting depth.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Trev, if ever you decide to get components (seperates), an easy and effective place to mount them, is on the plastic behind side view mirror.. You could surface mount them, so no damage is being done. Plus if you get them black, it should blend in quiet well.

I ve installed the infinaty kappa series 60.2 component set in my 97 civic coupe and the tweets fit perfect. just a litte modification for the 6.5" woofer. once you pull the door panel i beleave u just pull the tweeter house from the top and it will just pop off. you can even mount the crossover in the door panel. toward the bottom back of the door panel there is a plastic housing the is perfect to mount then in. i used some silicone adhesive to hold them. hope this helps good luck

I usually discommend people to mounting COs in the door..
For several reasons:
- shock (vibration)
- high humidity (its rough in there)
- setup (fine tuning)..

Its not a very accessible spot.

Well, thats what i feel.

I helped my friend install some MB Quarts in his Taurus SHO, and that' where we put them.
