day 4

so 4 days ago i decided out of the blue jsut to stop smoking cigarettes. no real reason, just kinda thought ive smoked em long enough, i had my fun, and im gonna not for a while. its not hard at all. i havnt even thought about it except that im not thinking about it. a few of my friends usta go crazy when i'd smoke one in front of them when they were trying to quit or have quit for a while. but it was because they were forced by the GF or guilted into stoping. me on the other hand i havnt had one craving and ive probobly had the 4 shittiest days of the past few months in which normally i'd kill for a rettie to enjoy a nice smoke after too much stress. its amazing how easy it is to break the physical addiction when you dont let the mental one take you down. if i do start smoking again it was because i wanted to, not because i couldnt handle it.

Significant others who try and force or guilt you into quitting should be shot. Or at the very least they should cease to be a significant other. Especially women (I've never heard of a guy doing that)...women need to stop the whole "I can change him" thing.

As for the whole mental vs. physical addiction thing, the physical part is pretty much over in 24-36 hours. On the third or fourth day you'll have trouble sleeping as your blood drops the extra CO2 molecule and picks up an oxygen molecule, but that's pretty much it. It's just something you gotta want (which is true of breaking any addiction). If you don't wanna stop, it's just not going to work.

After watching a 55 yearold die slowly over the span of 4 months I think your above is complete BS.

No one would wish how lung cancer patients die on their family, friends and loved ones.

Your comment is childish at best.

How is it in the least bit childish? Relationships aren't a contest. When you get involved with someone you know what you're getting into. If you don't want to date a smoker, don't date a fucking smoker. What's so hard about that? Why would you cause yourself hassle by dating a smoker and then trying to force him/her to change?

You know...I watched my dad die of lymphoma. By your logic if I came across a girl who wanted me to have all of my lymph nodes removed to prevent the possibility of me falling ill of the same disease, that'd be just peachy. If that sounds monumentally stupid, it's because it is.

they are already smelling like shit to me again, and i can smell smnoke on peoples breath. the only thing i miss is the novelty of inhaling and exhaling smoke. i feel 1000x better even after 5 days now. i can tell already my endurance has almost doubled, and im saving $3.50 every 1-3 days (depending on how much i drink that day). i laugh at anyone who says its hard to quit. its just willpower, nothing else. this is such an easy addiction to beat, people can quit herion and coke, cigs are a walk in the park.

Good job chris. I think it's the fact that you have to want to quit smoking. If someone forces you to quit, you still will smoke, just behind their backs. That's the thing. It's all about if you want to really quit, or not.

It is totally mental. If you want to quit you will, if you don't have a reason and just figure you should it won't work. I'm down to 2 or 0 smokes a day. Just depends if I want one or not.

Slight difference, you decide to smoke. You aren't born smoking. Huge difference. Try comparing something of likeness next time. Weak.

True...but I wasn't born with cancer either. It's something that develops whether you want it to or not. Sure...I could get lung cancer...but so could you. A close friend of the family developed it despite the fact that she'd never smoked nor had she ever been around smoke (she was a nun for god's sake...literally).

Go on and whine about someone you know dying of lung cancer. I could give you another dozen instances of people who have died from the same ailment who've never smoked. While I'm alive I'm going to do whatever the fuck I want whenever the fuck I want. Otherwise, what's the point of being alive? If you constantly worry about how you'll meet your maker then your life becomes predictable and worthless. Besides...I'd rather die around 60 than live to be 90 and have someone wiping my ass for me. Did I mention that men in my family tend not to age well? Well...if I didn't...get bent.

Oh...and while I'm at it, I didn't notice a single thing that bolstered your argument one bit. All I see is "I disagree, therefore you are wrong". Either come back with something insightful or just leave it alone. You won't change me. You can't change me. I know you hate that fact, but there it is. So now I shall partake in activities you and others like you probably detest but can't do a fucking thing about. Deal with it.

Congrats. The fact that you want to quit is helping. Those that get guilted into quitting often relapse.

steve your right, people who dont smoke get lung cancer, but you cant be serious in that argument. it sounds like your hinting at smoking dosnt cause cancer. the % of people with lung cancer who smoked and who didnt smoke is not 50% split, and because of that you must remeber when someone says that they are not trying to be a dick or guilt you into quitting, or inform you on the dangers cause everyone(aside from your argument it seems) knows that smoking increases (not presents the chance for) lung cancer. people are looking out for your wel being and i dont wana say i see things in a new light, but i noticed i was generally pissed off at people who had something against smoking. now i still might not like when someone says its gross or discusting, cause so are tomatos and snickers with almonds in them. its an opinion, but when someone is looking out for your wellbeing it would be the same as dont swim in the pool while its lightning out, or dont play in traffic, sure theres a good chance you can dodge the bullet, but not everyone does. just as those who never swim in the storms get struck by lightning via a window or their TV blows up or some other freak occurance, or a car could plow through your wall and kill you on the couch. chances of it happening, much lower than directly engaging in the activity. i dunno i was never "forced" to quit so i cant really speak from experience so i will not speculate, but the correct answer to someone trying to get you to quit is to throw the facts back at them, let them know you know and tell them its a consious life choice you made. you'd be supprised how quickly people stop giving you shit for it.

good job man... keep it up... if you want to.

My buddy has quit a bunch of time non of which he "really" wanted to... although they were almost always self motivated stoppages...

He got hypnotized and didn't have a craving AT ALL for like 6 months... but started smoking again anyway because he missed it... I think he's quit for good now...

I've never said I'll quit nor have I tried... although I'm getting to the point you are... but I've been smoking for a LONG time now...

Anywho... congrats.

Well of course I'm not saying smoking doesn't cause cancer. Well, technically it doesn't...the abnormal reproduction of cells causes cancer but this is no time to split hairs. Smoking will probably increase your risk of cancer, but some who smoke won't get it and some who don't smoke will.

speaking of cancer
since some of you may know I'm 80% likely to develop cancer in my lifetime as of next year. I watch out for my own on this stuff.

Quote:
A CHEMICAL used to make food wrapping and line tin cans could be the cause of surging prostate cancer rates in men, says a study.
Bisphenol A is widely used in the food industry to make polycarbonate drinks bottles and the resins used to line tin cans, even though it is known to leach into food and has long been suspected of disrupting human sex hormones.
About 2.8m tons of bisphenol is produced every year worldwide and it has been used in babies’ drinks bottles and teats in addition to food packaging.

yeah i have no reason whatso ever other than i just didnt feel like buying a pack a few days ago, then a few days went by and i realized i had no cravings. i bet i'll smoke next time im out playing pool at the bar, i guess i just like knowing it dosnt have me by the balls.

i wouldnt even say ive quit, i just havnt smoked in a few days. i usta, maybe 6-12 months ago smoke about a pack a day, just cause, then i started smoking less, probobly cause i was more busy at the time, now i bairly even have time, and i started playing a shit ton more basketbell, 5-7 times a week. so the extra endurance is nice.

just a little update on my progress, after some serious thought, i realized i didnt want to 100% quit, but i dont want to be a habitual smoker, i've only smoked off other peoples packs at bars. i enjoy smoking while drinking, and because of that, im not stopping it.

Drinking and smoking kind of goes hand in hand. I know I have a bitch of a time not smoking when i'm drinking.
