Why? Because I can. Before I left Kansas City I decided to pick up a couple games to help me keep my sanity, so I picked up Black and God Of War (both for PS2). My thoughts:

BLACK
--------------

A nice little FPS where you're a black-ops guy running around killing terrorist motherfuckers. The game engine is really nice...if you shoot shit (objects), it splinters, cracks, breaks, etc. You know...like shit does in real life. The weapons are all real and pretty damn cool. You get everything from a Glock to an AK-47 to a MP5 to a M249 (to name a few). The only problem is that, while the enemies have good AI (they take cover and evade you), the game gets repetitive since all of the enemies spawn in the same place regardless of the difficulty level. Oh...and no blood. Not a deal breaker, but a little gusher with a head shot would be nice.

I'm still not totally done with this one yet, but I'm pretty far along. You basically run around ancient Greece as a mortal with crazy powers doing the bidding of the gods. That is to say that you find minions of Ares and ruin their shit while solving puzzles to move on in the game. This game is DEFINITELY not for kids. There's enough blood to make even me go "whoa...holy shit". That...and nudity. Yeah...nakey-nakes. At first I thought it was just a quick cut-shot but every woman you meet in the game is either topless, wearing see-through tops, or damn near naked. This seems almost sad when you imagine the end result of animated nudity and sexually frustrated gamers in their parent's basements. The one REAL down to this game is that there's no camera control and the angles picked by the game are usually really bad. But oh well...so far it's really creative and fucking bloody. Worth the $20 it now costs as a "Greatest Hits" title.

Sure...until the (industry projected) $500 PS3 comes out in late fall. Honestly, I'd rather pay the money up front for a PS3 than buy an XBox 360. Why? Game selection. Sony has a huge base in Europe and Japan making game selection much more interesting that Microsoft's shitty venue. MS only takes up 15% of the market...Nintendo another 15%. Guess who gets the rest.

Oh...and the farther I get in God Of War, the more I like it despite it's problems. Makes me wish I had sold my soul to Ares in ancient Greece.

Do you really think it will be released this fall? Gran tirsmo comes to mind. The reason the ps platform has so many is because it been around for what…12 years? The xbox has only been around for about 5 years, the game support will get better. Analysts are predicting sony to lose about 20% of the market in the coming quarters.

I have the 360 and like it a lot. The graphics are very impressive and what they have done with the live software is staggering. I have the console configured to pull all my songs, videos, and pictures from a server thus making it a media server.

I'm one of those guys who never got into video games hardcore. GT2 got me hooked but that's it. I had my PS2 for 3 years now and played it no more than 10 times.....

It's funny...when I'm home in KC I hardly ever play just because there's other shit to do. In fact before I moved here I don't think I'd played in 6 months. Now I play a lot...just to kill time. I hate this fucking town.
