Don't buy gas on may 19th

I got this in an email. Im gonna do it and encourage everyone to do the same. Hey it might work it might not, its worth a try. They say gas is gonna hit $3/gal here in Indiana by July. That is waay too much for a gallon of gas. Copy what is below and stick it in an email and forward to as many people as you know.

IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOT
PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME,
THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.
AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF
OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL
COMPANIES. THEREFORE, WEDNESDAY, MAY 19TH HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT UP THEIR BEHIND " DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT DAY.
THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS
MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.
WAITING ON THIS ADMINISTRATION TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS
NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN
PRICES THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?
REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT
AT THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING
COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON
EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS,
MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!
WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY,
WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.
SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE
YOU KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE MAY 19TH A DAY THAT THE
CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES SAY "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH"

LMAO, these things never work. The people need to NOT DRIVE to make something like this work so that no more gas is comsumed. Obviously won't happen.

honestly I for one won't. it won't work, they'll just sell like crazy the next day or the day prior. in the end it is pointless everyone would have to just stop using it which again will never happen.

yeah, like you said, the only way to reduce prices is to stop driving, which wont happen: most of america is too lazy.

the other day it got up to 85 and it was kind of humid, but overall a nice day. as i was working, i must have seen at least 85-90% of all cars with their windows up and ac running. its obvious that any discomfort is unacceptable to the majority of people. Guzzle away!

3.00/gal isn't much compared to what EVERY other country pays for gas...

Last time I was in Norway it was like 8bucks a liter... now THAT is expensive...

I think americans should quite bitching about high gas prices if they're not willing to even consider mass transit.

Most people drive their cars by choice... Just like people choose to drink or smoke... they should pay a premium for a non-essential consumable.

I have NO problem whatsoever paying 2-3 bucks/gal for gas... we still have lower prices than just about ANY other gas-dependent society that doesn't produce it.

oh p.s. I won't buy gas that day... but I'll proobobly have to fill up the night before... I go through a tank of gas every day or two... except weekends.

Your arguement would be just great if everyone lived in a city. Let's see... right now I'm on the Oregon coast (or about 10 miles from it). Mass transit is not even an option here. Do you think they will put in a system for 1000 people to get to and from work where I am? No. It's not even remotely feasible.

I have friends in cities that take mass transit whenever they can. Its an option for people in large cities, but not in the rest of the country. I'm willing to take mass transit, but I can't...

That said maybe it would be smart to have cheaper gas in places like yours or until the population hit a critical number.

Lots of the places in Norway I go are VERY remote... and they all seem to have no problem with mass transit...

You may have to walk a mile or 3 but you get there and it's not that bad.

Bikes reduce times if you're worried about getting to work on time...

I'm not saying that EVERYONE could get along without a car or use mass transit solely... I'm saying americans OPT to use their cars a LOT more than most countries... AND on top of it pay less for fuel than those who are more concervative with it... AND on top of that complain about "high" prices when they pay a tenth of what any other western country pays for gas.

Yes, Eurpoe's mass transit systems are phenominal. You can take a bus, a train, or a subway just about anywhere. I remember the second time I was in Germany and gas was around 2.50 marks (around $5 USD) I went EVERYWHERE on public transit. But in Kansas City, a city of close to 4 million if memory serves we have less than half a dozen bus routes. They put these ads on TV like you can get anywhere on "The Jo" (Johnson County Transit line) but only if you're lucky enough that one stops even remotely near where you're going. Oh...and buses only come around 3 or 4 times a day...not like when I was in Long Beach and it was like a new bus every 15 minutes. So not driving in KC is just not a reality.

I also really don't know where these people got the idea that oil companies would just die if you didn't buy gas for one fucking day. You'll have to buy it sooner or later if you want to drive...so they'll be making money.

But all in all, I'm with Nonuv...as usual. People here need to stop bitching about gas when they're driving 15mpg Expeditions and Escalades. I honestly don't mind paying 2 bucks a gallon for 89 octane when I only use about 1 1/2 tanks per month...or around $45-$50 bucks per month. I can swing that. And if you've got the money for a Dodge SRT-10 or an Excursion, chances are you can afford whatever you're paying as well. We need to be weened off of cheap gas and catch up to the rest of the world. I'm not saying I wouldn't like to see gas back at $.99 per gallon like it was 2 or three years ago, but I completely get that compared to the rest of the world, we pay jack shit for petroleum. Maybe now's a good time to look into a car that'll burn E85 ethanol (for fuck's sake, it's made from corn in what basically amounts to a still).

I personaly live in the burb of st pete, first off bike riding in florida in the middle of summer is nearly out of thw question it's either raining or you sweat the minute you step outside, soemtimes both and everything is too far to take mass transit. my work is 25 minutes away aswell most of my friends. So I drive everywhere, and I have no problem paying for the gas, i'm also notorious for NEVER using a/c so that's some fuel saver there. The only time i use a/c is when I'm dressed up and going to soemthing formal so I dont have to worry about alittle sweat stain, but all other times eff that, windows do me fine.

This is the dumbest thing i have ever heard of. What about the day before? or the day after? In order for this to work people would have to stop buying gas UNTIL they cahnge the prices.
Which won't happen.

So they make 4.6 billion a day? If you belivea any of this, i have a bridge to sell you.

yes, at some point the gas will seperate , and the main property of gas will varnish, that is why if you are going to store a car, they tell you to drain all fluids, cause they will seperate.

now back to topic on hand, i just got a job @ Universal Studios, and i just got back from Hot Import Nights, all of which i got thee on a bus cause my car is in the shop, i dont minf taking the bus, cause here in orlando, there is a stop every 200 ft, and there are stops every where. if you want to go to Wal-Mart @ 3 a.m., and you dont want to drive, catch the bus!!!

O/T: OMFG HIN was sweet, i have never seen so many hot girls in one room before, there was a 1995 R-34 skyline, that was the star of the show, it was NISMO sponsered and it was sweet, for some reason i din't bring a camera with me, but i should kick my self!!!

4.6 billion a day? Wow...what douche came up with that number? If that were the case the petroleum market in the U.S ALONE would make close to 1.7 TRILLION dollars a year. That's what...about a quarter of the national debt? I don't doubt it's well WELL into the millions, but nothing makes 4.6 billion per day.

another fact that this wont work is they dont "stock pile it" Because it is a simple case of econmics. You have a surplus: demand is low prices are low. You have a shortage :demand is high and prices are too. It is being sold daily there is no stock pile of gas.

I just noticed in Bob Woodward's new book he mentions that (don't quote me on this...it's just what's in the book) Bush has met with the Saudi government and members of UAE (basically OPEC) and asked them to keep prices high until right before election so prices will drop rather drastically making Bush look like a success instead of the miserable failure he is. Dunno if it's true, but I wouldn't doubt it.

Here are a couple problems that Ive heard..

A.) The terrorist threat has raised the price of oil $10 a barrel.

B.) The focking enviromentalist are bitching like crazy that extending the a pipeline will hurt the enviroment in Alaska. Hearing from people that live in Anchorage about this, they say its not the truth at all. It will not affect wildlife, the enviroment, or anything. Its another case of lobbists that have no clue what they are talking about. They have billions of barrels worth of oil sitting up there.

I drive I pay, here in MS everything is spread hella far apart and there is no mass transit system. So not driving is not really a choice. But I just bought gas yesterday, so I won't today.

well it looks like in july the prices are gonna drop a bit. the oil productionj will be increased, but the refineries still won't be able to deal with the increased demand for the us consumption. well right now i have the acura which gets >30mpg
