Honestly, I'd just get a normal battery. Optimas are great and all, but big $$$

take your battery with you, some places give a core charge. Just walk into an Advance Auto and say "I have 1999 Civic. I need a new battery." If your real lazy you can have them install it, but if you have a ten mil wrench handy there is no reason to make them do it.

buy a honda cruising motorcycle battery, less weight. unless its really cold where you live then you'll have to wait until summer to run the small battery.

Unless it gets really really really cold at night where you are you dont need an optima (i feel that i do in the winter)
A regular battery is probably just fine. |

I say buy the optima.... they're good batteries... no acid to worry about... maintanance free... less fumes and corrosion... not much more than a good name brand battery...
otherwise I always recomend interstate... they're the sh!t.

well make sure you get the correct battery for your car. i think all the civics have top mounted SAE posts, and the accords have like tope mounted reversed sae posts. make sureyou get the right one, because the cables aren't too flexible

i say get a small one and lose more weight off the car than going to a carbon fiber hood.

compared to regular batterys, do honda cruising motorcycle batterys have the same strength, durablity, and power needed for my car? i live in georgia so the avg lowes are 20deg and up. is that too cold for the battery? and is there any modification needed to install it? im always up for losing weight in my 4door.

for your climate your going to want to stick with a correctly sized battery. I don't have any experience with this, but a smaller battery obviously has less strength. It can power the car, but not much else. If you run a stereo system or have a lot of extra accesories, etc. you're going to really tax that tiny battery. When its cold, cars never really like to start, they require more cranking amps. a smaller battery will not be able to provide as much current as a larger battery.
Oddly, I'm in an Electronics tech program, and we havent gone over batteries at all...i should bring that up |

the only thing the battery does it start the car and maybe keep the alarm on. the stereo and accessories shouldnt be running of it, thats what the alternator is for.

yeah, good point about the alternator. I didnt think before I spoke. Still you'd worry about the size of it wheny youre talking about cold weather.

while driving your alternator will take care of your system, unless you have a crazy show car system. Im not sure how long it will last with the alarm. I myself have left my dome light on for about 5 hours, and it started right up. If anyone is interested I can get these batteries from a local supplier. Just let me know.
