Lightened Flywheels
I'm just curious to hear some views on getting a lightened flywheel.
I know they make the revs drop/rise faster, make it easier to bog off the line, etc. I also know that they will improve acceleration, more in the low gears than higher gears. I would just like to know how "streetable" they are. I'm going to be changing my clutch sometime in the near future, and I was looking at throwing a lightened flywheel in at the same time to save labor. If they make it too difficult to drive, I'm not going to do it though. I don't have very much done to my car right now, but since I need a new clutch anyways... ![]() Thanks for any help ![]()

What are some good quality flywheels out there that won't kill my wallet? I'm also thinking that I don't want an ultra-light flywheel for street driving, right?
And yeah BlazinCRX, I haven't forgotten about getting that clutch from you ![]()

The only thing I'm concerned about it going to a 7.5 lb flywheel. That is extremely light, and from what I've heard, it will be a pain to start from lights, etc. each time. Any truth to that?

Yeah, when you get your turbo though, you will really benefit from a lightened flywheel.

Hello Fellas!
It really isnt harder to launch a car with a lighter flywheel. You will have adapte you driving methods.. It's a bit lik getting used to driving a stock Accord, then going to an S2000.. (S2000 rock!!) It will take a little more concentration for the frist times, but you'll get the hang of it. No big deal. ![]()

No. That really sucks. Fortunately I have a warranty on it. And with all the parts the are replacing it will very close to new. Its the actual gears that they have to replace along with some retainers. Pretty crazy.....

Definately worth it IMO. If you drive even a little in an aggressive way, its worth it. For daily driving, there's nothing anoying about it. Give a little more gas, get off the clutch musch faster.. During which time, you're not actually burning the clutch!

Civic_Addict, I appreciate you opinion, but I think that I'd do it now so I wouldn't have to pay so much labor in the future.
Accord Man - thanks again for the info One more question though... are there any that weigh around 10-11 lbs instead of 7-8?

Sounds good then. I guess its between ClutchMasters - 7lb and Fidanza (sp?) - 8 lb.
I've heard good things about both, but that groupbuy is a pretty good price.

I had no clue. I suggested Clutchmaster, cause thats the choice of my racer friends. Never really had problems with em. However with the Fidanza, 2-3 guys had issues with em.. 1 was at the install.. Do they both use the same quality controle?

Well, in response I wasn't hostile, just to the point. And since you all don't know me very well, I'll say this. If I do get hostile you'll know it.
I was trying to be informative about the flywheels, and when people don't read what I post, I get a bit upset. I never beat around the bush, I just get to the nitty gritty. Is it possible that Fidanza had some problems with their flywheels?, sure, I'll go with that. Here's the deal. And I talked with Fidanza directly about the CM flywheels. Fidanza sells clutchmasters their (Fidanza) flywheels. They make a few revisions, the color is different (blue for CM, silver for Fidanza) and Fidanze engraves the CM logo into the flywheel for them, other than that, they are identical units. So, if Fidanza has problems, it's most likely that Clutchmasters will have the same problems. I personally have had a Fidanza flywheel for about 2 years now, and have no problem. The offer excellent product support and you can easily get replacement disks if necessary. |

I have another flywheel question guys. I'm ordering an ACT clutch tomorrow (HA3-HDSS), and SOHFAST sells a stock lightened flywheel for $150 +$75 core. It weighs 13 lbs (which is about the weight I wanted to start with). This is 7 lbs off the stock flywheel if I'm correct. Jerome Soh says this is totally safe as long as you don't exceed 500 RPMs over redline. Is this a safe thing to have? Any comments?
