Head Swap?

d17 series motor. Will the K20 heads swap on or will I need to stick with the Vtec heads off of another 17 series engine?

its not just as simple as swapping on the head and calling it a day...its more involved than that...oil needs to be brought, etc

do some research on ls/vtec and mini-me how-to's to get all the info that you'll need for this

Cool thanks, I'll read up on it, then try to locate a head. Which is going to be a problem. Cause I dont wanna pay an a$$ load for shipping. Maybe I'll just sell my organs and swap in a Type-S acura motor

swapping on a civic EX head isnt as involved as a ls/vtec setup. no oil lines need to be tapped.

somethings i think you'll need: head, intake manifold, ecu, proper head gasket and a timing belt that'll fit. there's probably more but thats all i can think of.

i know that on the lx dx and hx the cat is right underthe the header whereas the ex the cat is underneath the car...think that will pose a problem?

Why would I need a different intake manifold?

i've never done a mini-like swap so i'm not too sure, i just know you don't have too. look at all the write ups on mini-me's and you'll see too.

it'd just be easier to get the EX intake manifold too just to keep things simpler, plus the power difference between the Ex and lower model civics is partly due to the intake manifold design.

So New heads, Intake and larger throttle body? Would it be ok to run a high compression with some forged pistons on my d series motor? or keep the lower compression?

yeah you can run high compression pistons, but first you need to find out if the compression will be raised by just swapping on the EX head. to do that you'll need to find out what the head volume of the head you currently have and the volume of the EX head, for example:(a pic I stole from somewhere way back)

notice how the y8 head has a smaller volume therefore it'll result in a higher compression just with the head swap, not much but still something you'll want to consider before ordering pistons. Also you should look into whether or not pistons from earlier d series engines will fit in your 1.7ltr block(i'm almost positive they will), theyre are many OEM d series pistons that'll bump up the compression for way cheaper than aftermarket pistons.

Well the thing is Im gona get juiced pretty soon. Thats why I was thinking about getting some Forged Weisco's just for security, to go along with the raised compression. Are there any crank's out of other motors that I could put in mine to make it a 4cyl stroker. Or am I just dreaming?

you already have the longest stroke of any dseries engine, there are places that'll do stroker setups to take it beyond 1.7ltr but the prices are rediculous. If you want more displacement my suggestion would be to have the block resleeved and bored out to a 77-78mm bore(75mm is stock)which will put you at 1758cc-1805cc(1.8ltr) if you were gonna stay naturally aspirated you could go to a 80mm bore which would put you at 1898cc (1.9ltr).

If you're gonna get into nitrous then yeah aftermarket internals(pistons, rods) are the way to go.

Hmm, things to think about. Im not looking into dumping alot of cash into this motor I just want vtec and a lil more power for now. Im saving for either a turbo set up for a K20A2 Motot swap. And bore out of cylinders is alot of money. But what do you think. Swap or Turbo. Im sure I'll end up making more power out of the swap but I'm a fan of turbo. Info on that?
