Diesel sucks. Paul, basically, it's like gas, only not as clean. Some diesel engines can make alot of power, but they are usually for stuff like trucks.

Diesel engines tend to put out a lot less horsepower, but they produce more torque. They also get better gas mileage, and diesel engines tend to last a lot longer then gas engines.

Take for example the Golf or Jetta diesel.

The 2.0 Liter Gas engine:
2.0L, 4-cylinder, in-line
115 @ 5200 (85 kW @ 5200) (Horsepower)
122 @ 2600 (165 Nm @ 2600) (Torque)

1.9 Liter Diesel motor:
1.9L, 4-cylinder, in-line, turbo-charged, direct injection
90 @ 3750 (66 kW @ 3750) (Horsepower)
155 @ 1900 (210 Nm @ 1900) (Torque)

The lowend torque makes the Diesel engine feel peppy, and they get 40-50 miles per gallon.

doesn't do mcuh for HP unfortunately, yes it goes up but the torque is what you are after, look at the 6.0 ford and the 6.6 duramax diesel they make about 300 hp when modified but well over 600 ft lbs of a torque, and you can add propane injection to get another 200ft lbs out of em.

Maybe not, depending on where you live diesel is about the same price as regular gas, sometimes (lately) cheaper. Its usually around 1.35-1.40 a gallon around here. Thats about what cheap gas is running these days.

Diesel is at a record high right nationwide right now; historically it's been quite a bit cheaper than unleaded gasoline.
