it's for weight too... usually people get them in as small a container as possible to make it down the track...
the one pictured is un-usually large for a race only vehicle. camaro's and mustangs usually go with a 5gal at most. (domestic guys correct me if I'm wrong)

a fuel cell is a saftey. it has a very thick rubbber bladder in it then it goes into a steel housing unit and that is then bolted to teh frame normally surrounded by a roll cage. teh advantage of a fuel cell is......quicker fuel deposit, safer due to new fuel lines with saftey features and it hold more fuel. at least brians stocker held 20-30 gallons

ummm quinn .......its time for your air refill, cuz your air is stale......think about it, more fuel=more weight, it doesnt reduce it.
![]() and yes i am joking with quinn......told her lil bit ago she is an airhead. (told it jokingly)

WOW... no actually a REAL DRAG CAR would NEVER use a 30 gal tank... they would use THE MINIMUM size possible to get down the track... no you wouldn't run one in a street driven car cuz you wouldn't make it to the next gas station...
it saves weight by holding LESS LIQUID... pretty simple right? do a search on google or summit racings list... yes they sell large size fuel cells so that you can meet safety requirements at the track in your daily driven car but NO drag car would have a 30 gal tank... that would be dumb... I know people who'd drop out there tank at the track and run their fuel cell while they were there. here is a good faq on fuel cells... http://www.fuelsafe.com/FAQ.htm

that's a fuel cell, not only is it sturdier, it gives the car better balance because of its relative ease to position it in the car.
(I know its already been said, but I would've said it anyways :P)

ummm you would use a 30 gallon cell for circle track racing. you need more fuel because you make many mor emiles and weight in teh right place is good.
thanks terr......i forgot about the ease of placement. sorry forgot they came in smaller sizes....so i guess it would weigh less. all depends on your purpose.

![]() there definitely NOT for saving weight as the rubber bladder inside them is quite thick and rather heavy however changing the amount of fuel they hold will save weight. they stainless stell braided lines used though are good to 3000 PSI and withstand chemicals that not even asphalt will hold up to. and you can dump 5-10 gallons in the matter of seconds. fuel cell size depends on the need. jeremy |

And whats funny about that... your talking about top fuel cars... they NEED more fuel... it would be pretty dumb to run a 5 gal tank when you NEED more than that... like I said they usually get the SMALLEST POSSIBLE... to SAVE WEIGHT by not having extra weight of both a larger container and more fuel... Of course your not going to run the EXACT required size you don't want to fuel starve your engine because it ran out of gas... I PERSONALLY KNOW people who have used 5gal fuel cells TO SAVE WEIGHT... it is a required feature on track cars under certain times (maybe all I don't know)... so purchasing a 5gal one instead of a 30 gal one WILL DEFINATELY save weight. especially LIKE YOU SAID the bladder weighs A LOT too... bigger bladder MORE weight. And I don't know many 5.0's that need more than a 10gal running pump gas or even race gas on a quater... and that'll still get you down the track a couple of times.
