parents

Ok guys... I really dont know the point of this post, so just bare with me... two summers ago I was given a car by my grandparents, a Toyota Highlander... at the beginning of last summer I was led to believe that at the end of that summer I could trade it in for a sports car... well that didn't happen, so I made a deal with my parents that if I kept my grades good this year (senior in HS) that towards the end of this year I could trade my car in as long as I could afford it and insurance wouldn't be any more... well heres the deal: in EVERY disagreement my parents and I have, they always pull the card saying I can't trade in my car, even though they didnt pay for it... its really starting to piss me off ... tonight I told my mom I didnt want people over at my house much any more because last time they came over it was too much hassle getting ready 4 hours for a 5 hour party... just not worth it... well she gets all mad and says forget the car, im so pissed off right now ... Ive fulfilled all the requirments of our agreement with a 3.6GPA and still they keep saying no to what I want (sc300), even though it wouldnt cost them a dime... anyone else have issues like this with their parents, and how did they deal with them? Im getting so fed up im about ready to just take myself out of this house...

ps- no im not a rich spoiled brat by any means, I just believe that when an agreement is made by two parties and one party holds up to their end of the deal that the other should as well, and I cant supercede my parents because well, they pay my tuition etc... I will NOT be this way towards my kids, it depresses me and makes me lose all faith in them as parents and as people

Im COMPLETELY 100% incredibly grateful to my grandparents for the car, I would not trade it in unless they approved, which they do, because they want me to be happy and it wont cost anyone a dime except me... I respect you for working for your car, but what do you want me to do? Refuse my grandparent's offer of a new car? Who in their right mind would do that... they offered, I didnt ask... as far as tuition- hopefully it will be very little in college next year thanks to academic scholorships

no person in his right mind would refuse a car.

I thought this might put things into perspective for you

The Images of Mother
4 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mommy can do anything!
8 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot!
12 YEARS OF AGE ~ My Mother doesn't really know quite everything.
14 YEARS OF A! GE ~ Naturally, Mother doesn't know that, either.
16 YEARS OF AGE ~ Mother? She's hopelessly old-fashioned.
18 YEARS OF AGE ~ That old woman? She's way out of date!
25 YEARS OF AGE ~ Well, she might know a little bit about it.
35 YEARS OF AGE ~ Before we decide, let's get Mom's opinion.
45 YEARS OF AGE ~ Wonder what Mom would have thought about it?
65 YEARS OF AGE ~ Wish I could talk it over with Mom.

Just like the same thing about people getting older and acting like children again. I think Erin posted that one. Both are very true.

life fvcks you, thats all there is to it. the only way to get by is to just take it, and deal with it. i have 1000 problems some finacial(not like debt or anything... just issues) some not, i dont worry though. if i can wake up in the morning, laugh and goto bed, then the day wasnt that bad. this of how much worse off you could have been. you could have a old $2000 car and only the money you've worked for to put into it. i have had to pay for every dime of my car, and every one of its problems. my parents could have afforded a car for me, but i have a HUGE sence of independence now, more so than i think i could have dreamed to learn if i was given a car.

Move out and they cant tell you what to do anymore, if you stay, well you gotta live by their rules. However messed up you might think they are.

Its amazing how the little problems become big ones, when you have it so good. Though things aren't perfect in my life, I have it dam good. You'll be hard pressed to find me bitching about anything, sometimes I vent about a little problem but over time I've come to realize some people would see my life as a walk in the park.

Wren I think you need to put things in persepective and thats what I tried to do with my post above. Just remember you have a nice SUV, forget the sports car. Think about where you are going, the gf and a summer job. Push this to the side for a little bit and come back to the problem with a clear mind, you'll be amazed what a little time will do.

YES...

and trust me when you get to college your priorities will do a complete 180 on you. i thought for sure i was a die hard car junkie and nothing could change that. well... 1.5 semesters into college, i just wana enjoy my time. i still like cars, and always will. but if i had 20g's i know for damn sure it wouldnt all get thrown into a car thats going to be problem after problem(any high power car is BTW) i would get off to college and see if you can justify 20g's for a old car with a supra engine. have you saved money for college? what happens if the car breaks? honestly man, im not trying to talk you out of it, but i think your parents know more than they are letting you believe. nothing is going to suck more to have a blown motor in the wrong car and the lexus or toyota guy scratching his head becuase theres no manual on the car. hybrid cars are awsome, if you wana pour the blood and sweat into them. just look at all your options... have you thought baout $3-$400 a semester for books? i pay about 6500 a year for room.. almsot 2000 for food, tuition is paid for(sholorships)... college adds up... sit your parents down, and have a intellegent conversation with them about why they think you cant have the car, and do not blow up if they say something they dont like, remeber theres more to life than cars

um... thats not a great idea. if he moves out he's cut off. i dont think he's 100% independent and that would be a sure way to get whatever he owns(he's 17 so everything he owns, his parents own) they can take away. i would never move out because i didnt like the way my parents did things. i look at that as almost failure in life... to ditch the ones that love you unconditionaly because you dont like a little rule they have

To ditch your family over a car, would have to be the stupiest choice of all. You never ditch your family, family is ALWAYS there for you.

Well your not going to do much growing up while living with your parents and having everything taken care of. Thats for sure.

Not to mention who says moving out is "ditching" your family??

Whatever, he had a teenage problem and I gave a real world answer, just to put things in perspective.

My parents cant give me any shit about anything, because I dont live at home. There are advantages and disadvantages to this. Just dont do something stupid and get yourself in trouble, because its not worth it. Sure parents can be a PITA, but dont let in get in between you, its really not worth it at all.
