?'s on Frequencies & cutoffs

okay, i feel real dumb because im at school to learn this kind of stuff! anyway,

I decided I didnt want to spend 12 bucks on bass blockers when I can just use an inline cap. this is for my g/fs del sol, 4 6.5's alpine 4 ohm.

I was using this equation: C=1/2pi(freq)(ohms) to find what cap rating I needed

The Bode plot for the speakers showed the Db level dropping off almost linearly after 100Hz. It was pretty much a straight line from 100Hz to 25kHz.

My question is how do you know at what freq should you start filtering. I ended up using 100uF caps, that by that equation, cuts out at 400Hz. Is this right?

and how do you tell when a cap is bipolar? I'm assuming "Axial" means the same thing, because the caps havent blown yet.

they dont teach us useful things in school!
