you would be correct. i love xp. best MS OS since win3.1.

i've had a few probs with it but i always have backups. people who don't backup and complain about computers losing their data are fools. period. end of statement.

i couldnt even load a backup, it just wouldnt do anything, i'd turn the power on, and it would die as soon as the XP screen came up. i couldnt boot safe mode or previous good boot record. i could boot from CD and get into my bois, that was it

You might want to go to your hard drive's manufacturer site and get a drive integrity checker to make sure your HDDs not going corrupt on you.

good idea trev. the HD could very well be the source of the problem. also the memory can do this as well. i have experienced this many a time when doing extreme memory overclocks. if you are overclocking at all you should check to see if you can lock your pci/agp frequency at 33/66 (native speeds, respectively) could be that your sound card or nic could be causing instability that would mess something up (that is... if you are overclocking).

when something in any MS OS goes haywire to the point i can't load windows i ALWAYS completely reformat and reinstall. no-one can "fix" a messed up windows install. once its fubar'd there's no magical eraser.

doesn't xp have the SFC utility ? i know 2k has it for the command line, you don't have to be in GUI to have it done. i did that on few computers at school.

You weren't forced to run XP, you could have used Win2k.
