Re: Mods and exaust

i assume you live in Canada if you have a '98 Si. If so, that means you drive a Civic with the D16Y8, no? TONS of mods for the motor. A little research and browsing through different boards will help. As for the exhaust, all Civics -- and four-banger Hondas -- will have the inherent farting/buzzing noise. it's just a matter of whether you want it to be deep or high. Many N1-style exhausts (Tanabe RM, A'PEXi N1, HKS Hiper, etc.) will usually be the loudest and most raspy. however, there's an exception which is the 5Zigen Fireball because it uses a very big resonator. therefore, it sounds pretty mellow and has a deep fart to it. I used to have an A'PEXi N1 cat-back, and it was EXTREMELY loud and sounded like a farting bumble bee riding a lawnmower. typical ricer exhaust. it was fairly deep, though. I now use an A'PEXi N1 B-pipe and custom mandrel-bent rear section piping with an OBX MV1015 muffler welded to it. i also removed the exhaust resonator from the b-pipe. it sounds similar to the N1 except it's a bit louder since the resonator was removed. i've only had the OBX for a day, though, so i'm assuming it'll get even louder as it "breaks in" ... a.k.a. the muffler packing wears away. ![]() so in essence, if you want the farting noise to be deep, find an exhaust you like and get a big fat exhaust resonator stuck on the piping (if it didn't already come with a big one). The resonator's basically a pre-muffler that helps cut down on noise and deepen the tone. A lot of people like the GReddy SP for exactly that reason. the resonator is practically as the big as the muffler itself. |
