Hi all. I am getting my first car soon and I wanna drag/street race it. I have 15k to spend on everything (car + mods) I wanna get a 96 - 00 civic hb and mod it up. I don't really wanna do an engine swap just a turbo build up. How fast can i make the car moding it up i wanna get to about 12 flat in the 1/4. I will use anythign BUT NOS. thx for help

I'd buy a 92-95, that'd give me more money to spend on the mods. I'd go upto a b18, then turbo it, rims, drag tires, hood, springs, pull out the seats, add a momo racing seat, momo stearing wheel. that should cost you about 15k... should be able to run sub 12's.

DUDE !!!!

If you have that much money to spend you should be getting a 1st generation Eagle Talon Tsi or a Eclipse GSX.

They're AWD (All Wheel Drive) Turbo and REDICULOUS. Seriously they're the most impressive cars I've ever driven in.

The best part is they're cheap get a 90-93 you can get one for between 1000-4000. From there I'd Start looking at the Diamond/Star Forums out there.

you could have a daily driven 10 sec. 1/4 mi. talon for way WAY under 15k

For that much you could build the hell out of it and have money left over for paint/body wheels anything you want.

Everybody here always talks about starting with the best platform as far as motor swaps (get the 1.8 or 1.6 DOHC instead of building a SOHC 1.6) Well if you have the chance to start from square one with that much money to spend and you go eclipse/talon you'll end up with MUCH MUCH more and WAY more performance/handling/acceleration/ these cars are ROCKETS. With a civic turbo build it's just more money to get all the stuff that's built in to the eclipse/talon. Plus once your done with the civic build you will have SERIOUS traction problems. Not with AWD talon/eclipse you won't.

The downside is way more parts to replace in the long run 4 axles 3 differentials, etc. but the car will be unbelievabley nice and these days it'd be pretty ORIGINAL. with all these civic's out there you'd stick out not only in looks but you'd smoke even the most built honda/acura.

I stumbled across it today actually and it documents the purchase of a 92-95 hatchback. The owner went on to a greddy kit all the way to fully built drag turbo he included pretty regular updates (they end in 2000 or '99). It's a little long but if thats what you want to do then you should definatly check it out it'd be a good read.

But see the Talon and the Eclipse are heavier cars. If he gets the Civic it's much lighter so he has a better chance.

Eclipses and Talons are good cars to make quick but I'm not a fan of the early "wedge of cheese" look. And the later models are plagued with crank-walk.

thats probably the most obvious advive one could give on the subject of "I have money how do I make it faster". This same kinda Q was out here earlier; SOHC will never be as good as DOHC. Take that cash, get a DX hatch, with tons of miles then swap the engine for a B18C. This way you should save money...at least some. Then turbo and nitrous it if thats what you want.

oh and I dont like the wedge of cheese look either

I agree that a FWD car bought and modified for dragging isn't a very smart idea... And just to inform you, it's called NO2. NOS is a brand.

But if you decide on getting the civic, I agree with everyone else... You NEED to swap that engine.

or, you could get a job, use 10k as the down payment on a subaru WRX, use the 5k to pull the cat convertes (4) and tweak it out a bit, then make monthly payments. I hear the car produces over 300hp with under 5k of mods. Plus then you have AWD.

That's the car I was picturing in my head. Cheap and performs pretty well. Just make sure you rebuild the tranny... To get good launches you have to abuse it.

And if you don't abuse it then you'd lose to four door family sedans like mine

...

I'm not sure if your retarded or just kidding. but.. a civic with a NSX engine wouldn't beat a stock tsi/gsx much less a modded one.

I am mentally chalenged a bit but what i was trying to say is:

If he's got 220hp in both cars, the Eclipse/Talon and the Civic. The Civic is lighter then the Eclipse/Talon so the HP for the civic doesn't goto watse in getting 2k lbs moving, vs in the Talon/Eclispe, moving that weight takes the extra HP.

a FWD honda pulled on my friends WRX in 1st and 2nd. soooo yeah.
but the eclipse/talon will cost less to make fast - and since you want to turbo the stock motor in a 96-00 hatch, its going to cost money to even make you a worthwhile race.

Like I said, you have to abuse the clutch to get a good launch. I've raced about 12 WRXs and all lost to me from a stop because they didn't drop it high enough.

Rebuild tranny to be STRONG and learn to launch and I doubt that Honda could do it again

he knows how to launch, yes he needs a better tranny cuz we all know that the 02 wrx's came with a crap tranny, the 03's came with a better one but its still not great....but still, he launched great and the civic just hung right there with him.

I'm sure you know that any FWD cars with a decent amount of horsepower have traction problems, and the higher the power gets the worse the problem will become.

My point is a civic with high hp/weight ratio will lose to a wrx with the same ratio from a stop.

And as for the launch where did he drop it?

Get a Z

Spend 10K on one, (prolly a 95-97LT1/LS1 if lucky) throw on 5K in mods(Cam, basic boltons, e-cutout, gears), 12 second car easy (might need drag radials), plus you've got room to grow without having to drop in a new engine. Or spend it all on a newer LS1 and mod as you go... You'll be starting off in the high 13's but you'll have the advantage of the LS1's awsome top end power... Your engine will last quite a while too.
0-60's will be below 2 secs with a good launch.

he launched at 5k rpm - the wrx. like i said, he knows how to launch and im aware FWD cars with power have traction problems but.....this didnt seem to be the case - he was probably running drag radials.

So did you bother to find out how much each of these cars weighed before you started talking sh*t.
Cuz

Talon/eclipse = 2549
civic dx/ex = 2326/2502

that looks like about 50-200 lbs. WOW thats a HUGE difference.

the minimal weight difference would be made up by the UNBELIEVABLE launch capabilities of an AWD car.

the reason yer buddies WRX got pulled on is cuz he does not know how to drive his car.

If a RWD porsche pulled on his WRX in the launch or even in 2nd gear he doesn't know how to drive his car.

to launch a turbo all wheel drive car you rev it to like 4500-7000 rpm and pop the clutch. it just grabs and go's like nothing you've seen before

i've seen the viper video too. that doesn't mean anything to me. i wasn't there i don't know who drove what and how well. as far as personal experience i've never seen a civic or an integra for that matter that's even remotely fast.

I've driven a 911 non-turbo and it wasn't much faster than a stock 88 non-turbo 300 Z. Neither of which is
A. very fast
B. as fast as a viper
C. a 10 sec car

so.... I know they exist but i've only seen them on tv or in magazines. and as far as the chances of this guy in his WRX running into not only a viper that's slow enough for him to beat AND a civic that's faster than that... I don't buy it

after rereading, it seems i wasnt clear on the races.
the WRX pulled on the Viper in 1st and 2nd, 3rd was all the Viper - the driver could not launch worth a damn but nonethless - a very fun race to watch. i was not in either car, only behind them, spazum888 from this board was IN the WRX so he could give you a better description of how that race went.
- as for the civic pulling on the wrx - this is what i was told by my friend (the driver of the WRX). but he said the civic pulled on him through 1st and a little bit of 2nd, then it was all the WRX.

i only witnessed the Viper event. I am only going by what i was told about the civic pulling on the WRX in 1st/2nd - and i dont see why hed make up a story that he got pulled on by a civic.

if you dont buy it, thats fine, i could honestly care less, you are getting a little TOO worked up about something so non-important.

nonovurbizniz Registered User Join Date: Jul 2002 Location: ECUSA Age: 48 Posts: 2,693	i've seen the viper video too. that doesn't mean anything to me. i wasn't there i don't know who drove what and how well. as far as personal experience i've never seen a civic or an integra for that matter that's even remotely fast. I've driven a 911 non-turbo and it wasn't much faster than a stock 88 non-turbo 300 Z. Neither of which is A. very fast B. as fast as a viper C. a 10 sec car so.... I know they exist but i've only seen them on tv or in magazines. and as far as the chances of this guy in his WRX running into not only a viper that's slow enough for him to beat AND a civic that's faster than that... I don't buy it __________________ I am an A$$hole... take anything I say to heart at YOUR OWN RISK...

slowEJ6 Registered User Join Date: Nov 2001 Location: Oviedo, FL Age: 43 Posts: 3,195	after rereading, it seems i wasnt clear on the races. the WRX pulled on the Viper in 1st and 2nd, 3rd was all the Viper - the driver could not launch worth a damn but nonethless - a very fun race to watch. i was not in either car, only behind them, spazum888 from this board was IN the WRX so he could give you a better description of how that race went. - as for the civic pulling on the wrx - this is what i was told by my friend (the driver of the WRX). but he said the civic pulled on him through 1st and a little bit of 2nd, then it was all the WRX. i only witnessed the Viper event. I am only going by what i was told about the civic pulling on the WRX in 1st/2nd - and i dont see why hed make up a story that he got pulled on by a civic. if you dont buy it, thats fine, i could honestly care less, you are getting a little TOO worked up about something so non-important.
