I just re-did mine actually last month. It was white with some paintings that I did on the walls and one wall was filled with old vinal records. I took everything down. I painted the whole thing midnight blue and painted around my original paintings with a thinner brush for better precision. Once all the paint dried, I covered the walls from floor to ceiling with those glow in the dark stars. They're all different sizes. My room now looks like the night sky. I threw out my bed. Put an older couch in there and bought a basic black futon. I got an older coffee table and took off all of the gross finish and repainted it the midnight blue but blended in some white streaks. If you're looking for a nice blue go with harbour blue. It's a Ralph Lauren shade and you can get it at Home Depot.

Do you want to hear something sort of funny? I fell in love with the whole midnight (a.k.a harbour) blue/white so much, I'm painting my whole car the blue and the mesh in my kit white. No, there's no crazy lighting in my room. I actually prefer to keep it somewhat dim. I do have a blacklight that makes all the stars light up though. I was going to get a little crazy but I thought about what was practical. I have just a normal stereo but a pretty good sized t.v. and I still have my v.c.r because I haven't felt the need to blow $ on a d.v.d player.

i did nothing to my room yet. i have just a bed, a huge desk for my computer, a 27" TV along with the cheapo DVD player, and the My stereo. also i must mention that the old suspension from the accord is still laying around here, along with 3 computers that need to be fixed.

MT BIKER, get some bean bag chairs. If you get the weird fake leather ones, you can use those for sledding in the winter too. But there's not real beans in there. There's little styrofoam balls. When all the snow melted there were these little white balls all over the yard and my mom got really mad and the landscapers had to blow them with a leafblower and then clean them all up. Sorry. I'm getting off topic but get bean bag chairs. Or the inflatable ones.

Haha... I just bought a house. Now I'm thinking I'll paint every room midnight blue with a white stripe...

Nice lighting can make the room a lot more liveable - go with as much "task lighting" as you can. Another idea is small (~1" diameter) surface-mount spots for above desk, in stereo cabinet, etc. They have some cool ones at home depot that you can dim by waving your hand in front of 'em.

You know how walls have the border right near the ceiling? Is that what you would be going for? If you're going to do the white stripes, I would leave some room between the white stripe and where the wall actually meets the ceiling. If your ceiling is white and you didn't do that, it would be white on white. Get some blue in the middle of all that so the colors offset eachother better.

ya im not exactly sure how wide the strip of white is going to be at the top we have to measure everything first...and the bottom
im not to sure what colour to paint the ceiling yet...hmmmm so many options..i found some sweet 5 foot lights for like 20 bucks that are real dark blue and can be set to pulse slowly to music i think 4 of those around the mid of the wall at top would be sweet..

That's cool about the lights. You should just do the ceiling an off white/cream color along with the stripes. That would look alot better than just a flat white. You don't want to go insane with painting it all blue. If you do that's ok too but you've got to get some contrasting colors in there as well.

I personally like the star thing better. That's probably why my room is like that. I'm not trying to brag or anything but I think it looks cool as hell. The only thing that sucks about having a dark room is when it's time to get up in the morning because it's still all dark in there. I have dark curtains to match as well so the sunlight doesn't get in too well.

Just put an offer in on a house this week so I'll be thinking of decorating ideas a lot. It's current resident is a 70 year old piano teacher with typical elderly decore and excessive floral patterns. Thats all coming out and I'll probably go for bare floorboards, magnolia walls, minimal furnature except where needed and one or 2 nice pieces of art on the walls. Well thats the lounge/dining room anyway. so many rooms, so many possible themes I'm really looking forward to going to town on the place.

Please be careful when you go to Home Depot. I'm not sure that you've ever heard my philosophy on what Home Depot really is. I think that it is a psychological expieriment. Seriously, they put things in the weirdest places so you just go running around in circles and get all frustrated. When I was redoing my room, I went to buy paintbrushes. Now, it would make sense to put them in the paint isle where all the rollers, trays and etc. are right? NOPE they had them like 2 isles down. It took me a lot of time and aggravation to find them. You get sucked in. I think they record all of this.

No, I'm serious though. There's other factors that they add in too. It smells in there and I get all itchy whenever I go in there. I've needed to go there several times now I ended up going to some local hardware store totally out of my way.

You really should just get one of those clear, plastic suits that Dr Evil wears in the first Austin Powers. The one that he tries to sit down in but just slides off the chair...If you brought a map into the Home Depot, they would be on to you and the fact that you're trying to outsmart them and they would take it away. Sneak a compass in.

I would do the dresser. It will leave you with more room tecnically speaking. Plus, you can put stuff on top of the dresser rather than inside the closet. Next week, I'm going to start taking all the finish off of my dressers and repainting them to match the rest of my room. The coffee table that I already did is the harbour blue but streaked with off white.

Home Depot is like a maze, I can spend hours in that store. Anyways, I need ideas for my room. Its actually really boring. But all I do is sleep there.

I have black dressers, my room is pretty big so I can fit alot more stuff. I have a queen sized bed, with a Deep Purple/cream comforter.

I don't think I can paint my room because I rent, so that goes that idea. On one wall I have a huge painting of a black cougar with jade green in the background and a black frame, to match my furniture.

Other that that, all the other walls are bare. Any suggestions. My room is more of a contemporary/modern style. ?????

I think you should lose the painting. The black furniture is really good though because everything obviously goes with black. If your walls are totally bare, go with some tapestries. Ever see the real big ones? They rule. You can get them real cheap at flea markets and stuff. Stick with simple curtains. Cheap decorating and make it your self stuff is where it's at. Bottles filled with colored water (food coloring). This may sound strange but prior to turning my room into the night sky, I had dried flowers hanging from the ceiling over my bed. I tied a string around them and just used clear tape to attach them to the ceiling. Little beta fish in weird bowls are cool but you have to clean them once a week.

Too light? Hmmm. That's odd. My room is so dark. Maybe it's a different shade. You're getting all crazy and knocking down walls. Did you go to Home Depot? Did you get trapped?
