Avitar stealing

RANT TIME!!!!!

Ok, so I've noticed a lot of duplicate avitars flying around on this board. Quite frankly, it annoys me. Not that you care about whether I'm annoyed or not....but I care.

See, the thing is....when I am scrolling through the pages, reading what peeps have gots to say and stuff, often times I won't even bother looking at the name of who posted, I'll simply see the avatar (if they've got one, unlike me). It's just like talking to somebody...you don't focus on the person's name who's speaking, you just see their face and listen to what they have to say.

But with all these duplicate avatars, I'll be reading through a post and will think it's somebody else who's writing, usually I associate the avatar with the first person whose post I read that had that avatar....then everybody else I just consider an imposter!

So...I was wondering if people who copied avatars from someone else could perhaps have the decency to be original and use a different avatar...you probably wouldn't parade around the streets wearing a face-mask to look like someone else, well, maybe other than Nixon, but robbing banks probably isn't business-as-usual for most folks.

Anybody else feel me on this issue, or is it actually just a rant?

before you started talkin crap about people stealing avatars maybe you should have checked out the fact most people are just using what is offered in the user control panel....so of course there are bound to be a lot of the same.

Yeah, I didn't realize that until after I posted and started looking into getting my own avatar....buuuuut, the issue still remains.

I don't mean to dog on people who use avatars that others are using, nothing against them, I'm sure they're good fine people. I'd just like to see people with unique avatars...otherwise it kinda defeats the whole purpose of having an avatar if everybody's got the same one.

Where people get their avatars has absolutely no bearing on whether I find it annoying that people use duplicate avatars.

I guess I came off kinda harsh on people who use the avatars, my bad....bygones.

It is confusing when everyone has the same avatar, and a bit irritating but most people just choose from the list....

well get someone to make you some. i myself made mine i can make some for people if they want me to

Humans are very visually oriented, kinda like the 'picture says a thousand words' saying....there is more to it than it just being an old saying. It is much easier and faster to associate posts with an image rather than a name.

How many times you meet someone and forget their name, but you remember just what they look like....when you see them again, you remember their face, but can't recall their name? It's not cuz you suck at remembering names, it's due to how the brain works.....

i dont usually pay attention to the name or the avatar, i just read the post - if i reply to something, THEN i figure out who its by. oh well.

I agree with you man! I find myself thinkin someone else si sayin somthin there not! Like you said its human nature!

I attribute some posts to toykilla when he didn't actually post them...cuz I associate that avatar with him, but he's not the only one who uses it. It could work to his advantage or disadvantage in my opinion of him.....not that he cares about my opinion of him, it's just an example that I can think of at the moment....not tryin to single anybody out.

If people are so anal about being original with their rides....why not so about their avatars?

i totally agree with you on the association of the avatar and not the name to the posts... thats exactly how i feel.
im more annoyed than anything, not really mad or anything. i sorta stole an avatar some time ago but customized it a bit... but i don't make my avatars... like this one im using now i just search for pic's i like that will fit or i can make fit by shrinking them. like my animated ones... i don't make those... i don't even hafta find somewhere to host them since they're already online.

i understand that peeps only have so many to choose from. so postwhore til you can get a custom one! lol. you only need what 25 posts??

Nothing says you gotta have an avatar, and I didn't use one for a while, but I definitely see them as advantageous as long as everybody's is unique....otherwise I find them to be rather useless.

Not like my avatar took very long to create....

Hey, you gotta work with what your given. For me, there's only so many avitars that I can choose from since I'm only in 1st gear. Of course there's bound to be someone else who chose the same one I picked. You find that with almost everything, clothes, cars, hairstyles, etc. And besides, the pictures of weird looking men and cartoons didn't really appeal to me, so I'm really limited. If it bothers you guys so much, I apologize and I'll work on finding one that fits me!

Ok...I'd have to agree about the avatar thing. I got sorta annoyed cuz I was like one of the only ones that had the little dog avatar (cuz it was the only one I liked from the CP list) and then there was this huge wave of chicks that joined and picked that as their avatar. So, I promptly changed cuz I like to be different and stand out. And I had enough posts to have one off the list. I seriously don't have a problem with people havin the same avatar but I do associate the avatar with the person typing and I don't look at the name. Unless I know there are multiple peeps with the same avatar. I personally like seein the different avatars...I think they say a little more about the person than just keepin the ones that are on the CP that you are "forced" to use if you want one.

50 isn't too bad a limit to come up with your own avatar, but perhaps we should get another petition going to put that limit down to 0?

I'm just used to another board that I frequent, and NOBODY uses a duplicate avatar, every one is uniqe, and it makes it very easy to see who's sayin what, and remember.

Ok, so I was one of the wave of chicks that picked the dog as my avatar. I didn't pick it because everyone else had it, I picked it cause it was the one I liked the best. And I like dogs.

ya i get what everyone's saying. when i'm scrolling through the page, it's easier on my eyes to see the pics and know right away who's who...but with some people having the same ones, it's kinda confusing. yes i know i can read the name, but when i'm rushing through the page, it takes a bit longer to read names then see the pics
