AEM CAI and water/moisture question
Hey all,
I was just wondering if I need to worry about water/moisture getting into my engine once I've installed this cold air intake I got. So I have a couple of questions for you expertz: 1. Will the CAI pick up water from its intake point? 2. If so, is there any kind of filter I can get to prevent the water from making it back into my engine? Thanx for any input! |

Yes and yes. The CAI will suck up water and hydrolock your engine if it is submerged. I drive in very rainy weather with mine, and I've been fine so far. If you're conecerned, you can get a bypass valve from AEM (~$40 I think). You install that inline, and in the case that the filter is submerged, air will be sucked in through the valve instead. I have one, but I ended up putting a rubber coupler in its place since it causes HP loss.

in the rain you dont have to worry all tooo much.. but still a good idea to get a by pass valve.. its fairly cheap to buy....

Much easier to suck up water than air, so unless the filter is submerged you should be okay. I have the bypass valve anyway, 'cause it's cheaper than a new engine (just in case).

I had an AEM CAI on my EX for over a year with no issues. I now have one on my Si. Unless you drive in a flood, you shouldn't have any issues. Just be smart...
