A better way to do this is branding basically. Normally burns will leave heavy scars no matter how long they were left on the skin. All you need for it is to blister and that's enough.
I've seen articles of people doing this stuff with burning their skin with soldering guns on their backs. One of the guys made an Indian War Band on his back it looked pretty sweet.

I've never seen a burn scar that was puffed out. They always look like the normal skin just a different color. I guess it depends on the temperature and how long you leave it on there.
