Don't rush on the marriage thing. Take your time and do it when you're both ready. Believe it or not there are couples that have been together many years, have children and still aren't married. Though in today's world alot of people frown on it.

I think in the long run its better for the childern. It brings an added level of commitmet to the relationship.

Pretty sure I don't need a piece of paper saying I'm with someone. If you're not commited just because you're not married there's a problem.
