It might be the rings if you have replaced the valves.

yeah you're on the right track i think. However it could be the HG as well. Usually after a valve job (new valves, seats, whatever) it will cause the ening to produce better compression and vaccuum. So when the engine is on vaccuum and you have a weak headgasket, then it probably sucks in coolant.
