yeah...thats why a new generation md/technology is brought out every 2-3yrs. Its constantly adapting....mp3 stays the same as its been since I can remember seeing the portable players.

MD has been through several advances in a just few yrs:
Size of MD - 74min, 80min, 1gb
Quality of sound - Analog, mp3, atrac3
Transfer technology/rate - Analog, optical, digital/netmd v1 and v2


MD isnt really made to compete w/ mp3. MD is 100times more popular in japan than mp3 because of the quality, functionality, and size (small).
It depends on what you think you need...but hands down md is more versitile and better quality.

(oh, and sony is not the only manufacturer of md...nearly all japanese companies (wow almost everything) makes an md product)
