Well I just got nailed

Bout 30 min ago I got nailed commin home. I got side swipped. Lady pulled out in front of me in my lane, tried to swerve and she ended up nailin my passenger side door. It's stuck shut. My gf was in the passenger side leanin towards me with her hip up against the door too. Think she'll have a huge bruise tomorrow. Here's some pics.

She was in like a early 90's rolla. I was pretty surprised when we pulled over at how bad it was.

Well at the time of the accident the teenager said she just got a new insurance policy and so she didn't have that info but I got everything else. I get a call today from her parents (they left a voicemail) sayin that her Dad's a mechanic and he wanted to talk to me and check out the damages. I'm thinkin, great, she's not insured. I give all the #'s to my Mom (cause she works for a law firm) and turns out she doesn't and they wanna pay out of their own pocket. I do have uninsured motorist too that'll cover up to $10k in damages so I dunno what's gonna happen now exactly.

that sucks major balls.

well if her dads willing to fix it. that probably means she not insured. so he wants to fix it for free. so you dont get his duaghter in major ticket fine and suspension trouble.

i would personally let my insurance angency handle it. that what did when i T bone a guy. who was going the wrong way down a one way. it took 1-2 months before i even got a dime for a new car. so you could also be waiting awhile for insurance money.

Dude, if her dad wants to fix it for free....let him.

Make sure he will do it quick but let him.

Do rates go up if you have to make an uninsured motorist claim?

I'm filing a police report for vehicle collision, I called the cops when I got home and they said no one would show up unless a lane was blocked or someone was injured.

Your right, you probabaly thought of everything you could do. It was a very trivial suggestion

I wasn't in the situation and I shouldn't be throwing comments like that.

I hope the Chassis wasn't affected

No man it's cool, I'm not mad or anything. I don't think the chassis is damaged. The guy who looked at it to give me the 1 estimate I got didn't mention anything. I hope it's not too.

Does anyone know what determines a car to be totalled? I've been told they could total it if the damages are more then half the worth of the car...anyone know how true this is?

Actually, if it is more than 70% of the car's value, insurance will total it.

realy i dont think its 70% or at least not for all companies because my car is only worth about 2500 and it had $2100 worth o damge done to it when it was broken into and the insurncae didnt say a thing about it being totalted i always thought it was 100%

it depends on the damage, if bent frame instant total, on all cars 93-newer 100% 00-93 50%, but on an older car you can claim salvage on the title and kep the car and fix it for the insurance money, since they paid you fro the car
