What a difference a turbo makes

So winter break has afforded me many luxuries...like a day or two off. As luck would have it I got together with my brother (he's 1 1/2 years older) and all of our car friends. Almost all of them drive Mustangs, but there's an RX-7, a '69 Camaro, and a few others thrown in for some variety. One of my brother's friends happens to drive a 650hp N/A car so I told him we'd trade for a half hour so he could see what he was missing. I gotta say, I was almost disappointed by this monster motor (a 408 stroker). It put your ass back in the seat, but there was no mid powerband kick in the ass like in my car. No turbo hiss and the thing took about 2 years off of my ear's life. Also, the cam in the thing was so big I felt like Jim Carey in Ace Ventura 2 when he bounces around the inside of that jeep...it was almost painful. So we returned (minus about 1/4-1/2 tank of gas each) and now he's on the turbo bandwagon. I guess I forgot how much it sucked driving a high powered N/A car when I can make as much or more power a little more quietly with a lot better driveability. Score one for turbos.

ive been considering turboing a domestic as my next project car. you get the low end neck snap followed by the mid to high end power. best of both worlds

You ain't kidding. It's weird though...I'll bet I've got maybe one of 10 turbo'ed stangs in the KC area (that I've seen and I make it to most of the "scene" gatherings and car shows). There's tons of blown cars running around and turbo kits for Mustangs don't cost any more than a good blower kit but these morons still haven't seen the potential even with turbo'ed Pro 5.0 racers are breaking records, running 6.40s @ 220mph in single turbo packages. Just sad really.
