My advice to you would be to just go in and apply for the job. Prolly the worst they would say to you is that they aren't hiring at the moment but they can still give you an application in the case that a job opens up. Should you choose to turn in the app if this happens it would be rare to hear a call from them. I think a good plan B would be to apply for like a porter job at a car dealership. You would get to be around cars a lot and you could possibly get some training to move up to a more desirable and more profitable job. And if all else fails, I would take a job in the food services any day over a retail job. A lot less headache.
