WRX Sti vs Evo VIII

Omfg...I just saw a White EVO VIII at safeway today. It looks gorgeous in person. looks way better then the one in the pictures.

5 minutes away, theres a Subaru dealer. It has a Silver STI on display in front of the dealer. Oh my god...this thing looks good as hell also!!!!!!

I found out the STI cost about 2 grand more then the EVO VIII. I think Im going to start saving for an EVO VIII. I think it looks better and cheaper a lil bit. What do you guys like?? I wouldnt mine the WRX either.

I know a guy who works at a dealership, he can get you an EVO at invoice, no joke.
I think the EVO looks pretty redicilious in pictures but looks good in person. As for the STi, I got a ride in one, and they scoot (although my friend's WRX is faster).

the WRX is stronger when it comes to the power department - the EVO is more balanced though in its handling......

so there you go...id rather have a WRX before the ugly front end change.

I'd take a lancer... Almost every review I've read of both has said... the sti is a little bit better on paper but for some reason they all pick the lancer....

I wouldn't drive either one though... don't get me wrong I'd love to have a car with either drivetrain... but they look WAY too ricey imo...

LOL, that's funny, that you're going to say that the EVO and STi are ricy. Sure, the EVO has a 10" tall wing. But I mean, both are proven performers...

Will the new stock 350z be able to whoop the STI or Evo VIII??? or is the other way around?? the 350z has almost the same hp as the Evo VIII but I dont know if weight is a factor since the 350z looks smaller.

and that affects how it looks how?

they LOOK ricey...

both of them... embarrasingly so... I wouldn't drive one for money looking the way they do.

I'll take my slow civic over a fast rice-mobile anyday... I'm all about speed and all but I'm not going to look like a F&F dork doing it...

It's like the 350z's... those interiors and door handles WRECK that car... it's kinda good looking but the inside is like a 10 yearold with visions of the future puked his conciousness all over it.... Wouldn't drive one looking like that...

true about the z, but if you look at other performace cars, like the new ferarri enzo, gt40. All way over done in the dept. of design. The fact is that people that know enough to recognize your sti or evo will know that it kicks ass and that the design comes next and isnt that important. I would take any in a second, your telling me you'd rather have a slow civic over a riced out beast? I mean the spoiler and intakes on each are a little overexaggerated but atleast they are all the same color and the car flows, it could be like the local mcdonalds chefs car with altezzas a park bench spoiler and a macco paintjob. I think they're both classy.

Technically the sti is faster, but according to many magaizines that have run the two in competition state that the evo is actually faster. unless ofcourse you know from personal experience.

i wouldn't beleive any magazines or sites unless they tested
each car by a professional racer. he'd have to drive each car
a couple of times to see his reaction, then you'll know which is
actually faster.

then you wouldn't have the, "he can drive better so he was faster" argument.

Ture, i mean it didnt get very specific about drivers but every import magazine out there ran a story with the two vs each other. I imagine they did run them a few times and used experienced drivers. And when they stated that they thought one was faster than the other it was becuause it was, on paper, 1/4 times, 0-60 times, etc.

I know i like the wrx and especially the sti, although i heard from some people the car is flawless except for the transmission, it seems to be the only weak spot.

Car and Driver did a COMPLETE review of both... they had like 4-5 guys drive both of them several times and compare them... it is what they do for a living...

EVERYONE said they didn't know why but the evo was just better...

The evo ran better track times than the sti too...

I've seen and read a bunch of reviews and just about all of them have agreed... the wrx is more powerfull, a little more stable and looks like the obvious choice on paper... but they all like the evo more...

If I was going to buy one of these cars I'd be hardpressed to decide... I don't like the way either one looks so there's NO winner there imo... I like the fact that the evo is based on a platform that's been around AND succesfull for a LONG time now.. there's TONS of aftermarket support (true also for subaru but not the same)...

HOWEVER... the sti has a 2.5 and runs MUCH lower boost... the evo is running max of 18-20psi... that's just about as much as you're gunna be able to run stock... you'd have to make some serious changes to get more hp our of that motor... the sti on the other hand is 2.5 and runs like 14.5 max... you could just upgrade the turbo and fuel delivery and have a LOT more power...

But I've heard LOTS of bad stuff about the whole subaru drivetrain... and weak drivetrains are NOT cool on high hp cars...

Overall I think I'd get .... F it I can't decide.. .and I don't have the money for either so. I'll stop rambling now.

And to answer someone elses Q... I'd rather spend HALF the amount of money an sti or evo would be on a 92-95 civic and build that... or a 1st gen talon or a 240... etc.. ANYTHING that looks good and could be just as if not faster than the "fast" ugly production car.
