![]() I am having trouble deciding which I should go for.....what exactly are my options well.........either a turbo kit or a supercharger.
I have had turbo before as most of you know, and I liked it a lot but I have also heard good things about superchargers but I honestly dont know that much about them to be honest with you. Which would you guys chose and why? ps they also make a twin turbo for my car.....but its like 6 grand.:o :o :o so thats a no go. |

well it depends on the engine. if it's an inline whatever then turbo it. if it's a v then get a supercharger. a lot easier to setup

im guessing hes running the v6... I think thats what a KLZE is...
definately turbo... you don't get the parasitic drivetrain loss you get with the addition of a belt in the supercharger, turbo is much easier to up the boost, and if you want you can setup several fuel maps relayed to a switch... I would make a map for 0 boost (for everyday driving), near max boost (for racing or just going fast on the street), and race boost (for use with race gas)... of course thats a lot of tuning, and tuning aint cheap...

Well I would choose a S/C. And no, turbo's don't own s/c. I would run dual centrifugal s/c.. which you can do for much less money then dual turbos, and make more power. S/C will develop more tq, which is what your car is prob lacking, and you will have less problems with them. I think they are MUCH easier to setup especially with limited space as well. You can always easily boost the hell out of a turbo, but like highlander says it takes tuning and will wear your engine out. The more you boost it, the higher the dynamic compression ratio gets, and the higher octane gas you will have to use. Basically you will get more bang for your $ with a s/c. |

Clarification:
Boost is boost. A good rule of thumb is 1 psi boost is equal to 10 plus/minus 2 Hp gain. The efficiency will then rely on the tuning aspect and well-designed combination of parts. I prefer turbo due to its ease of operation and the capability of "on the go" boost adjustment. It also uses wasted energy (thermal energy produced by the exhaust system) to a more beneficial use which is spinning a turbine. Spool time is not as great as the SC but that can be solved by tuning the low end or the pre-spool power band. Spool time is also directly proportional to the size of the turbine, flow (in CFM), exhaust temp, and ambient temp. |

well i looked into it and i belive that i will agree with v8killimports on this one. Only reason is because, I am not gonna drag race this thing everyweekend, I want the quickest spool up time so I can receive the power I need in a small street race every now and then. And plus I am running out of money fast, I dont have enough to tune it all the time. So.... I think I'm gonna look into getting a supercharger. PLUS, this guy makes them custom, so it will go along with all the engines specifications.

![]() Not trying to flame you, If you think that you will NOT need to tune an SC set-up, you're wrong. This is only true to the initial set-up providing initial boost is not tampered with. Turbo kits are the same way. Initial installation really does not need tuning, as long as the boost is maintained as per the initial setting. BUT, it's your car and your decission. I respect that. I dont know anything about Probes. All I know is that, I've seen some really great tuners who have switched from an SC set-up to a turbo set-up. Dont get me wrong tho, I like centrifugal superchargers..... ![]() |

Procharger makes great centri chargers.. I like the roots blowers.. but not really an option here I guess.. a good s/c will get you sometimes 35-55% (and higher in some cases) with only 6-8psi. So if you are running like 400hp, that would give ya almost 600hp while maintaining complete drivability. While a turbocharger can do the same.. but prob from 8-12psi which I don't see as very streetable.
And tuning is free. Just ask yourself how much you charge. |
