The side-marker on your car PBateson is there because the red from your tail-lights cannot be seen from the side. So, alot of kids will put clear side-markers and hyperwhite lights in there. It just looks cleaner.

Some people will put hyperwhite side markers on their Civics just for a different look. I think they look OK, but you have to be careful what brand you buy. Some side-markers will prematurely crack or discolor over time.
