New spy photos of cars

Dressed up as a Lexus GS clone for testing purposes only, Volkswagen's soon-to-be flagship (code-named D1) is finishing up last minute testing and getting ready for its 2002 Geneva introduction. Measuring in at nearly 16.5 feet, the D1 will likely be powered by a 6.0-liter W12 pushing 450 horsepower when it officially reaches the first North American dealerships next year. Six engines, including a 5.0-liter V10 diesel, will be available in Europe, but it appears we'll only have the W12 with 4Motion available in the States.

The super-luxury super-Volkswagen hopes to gain new customers from Mercedes and BMW with luxury appointments, superior ride and handling, and — believe it or not - pricing. The US model should begin under $75,000, with annual production in Dresden expected to be near 30,000
