lowering help

I need some advise on lowering my civic LX. I still have stock everything except projector lights and a sound system but i think that it sits too high. my friend lowered his 89 corvette for only $10 for materials and it performs awesome. If anyone has any idea how to do something like this without buying springs for a few hundred i would greatly appreciate it. i just spent alot on new fenders, bumpers and paint and now im a little low on cash.
