HAH! You oughta live in CA. You want to talk about smog laws and tests.....we've got the most strict smog laws in all the states. I cringe evertime I take my car in to renew my registration, which luckly for now is every two years....

we had that for a while here, and they are pretty difficult. one simple exhaust leak and you will fail the test. if the tank cap does not hold enough you will fail again.

I know it could be worse and that everyone else is doing it (mostly). But, its one thing to always have it...and its another to drive around w/o having to deal with it and then have it shoved in your face.....again. I was happy when it disappeared.

Classic cars are exempt because emissions standards weren't the sme back then. It would be unfair to apply the same rules to those cars because when they were made technology wasn't as advanced as it is now and making those cars pass current emissions laws would cost a fortune.

Keep in mind most states have caps on how much you have to spend when you get your car registered if it fails. In Kansas I think it's something like $500 in the counties that do the testing. If you fail, spend that much, and fail again there isn't much they can do about it.
