WTF?! Transmission Problem?

Ok...i hate my life and my car is stupid.

I went to get groceries at safeway and there was a tiny patch of ice and my tires spun in first gear....all of a sudden, my car won't engage into ANY gear, not even reverse. It just makes a sort of soft grinding noise. (so of course i cus, etc etc) I manage to push my car into a parking spot and try it again. This time it works fine! So i go get groceries and when i'm leaving the parking lot, it does the same thing and this time i'm fuked!! So i push it into a parking spot and gather my groceries into a shopping cart and push them home, 2 blocks away...ANyways...is my tranny hooped or what?
And if so, how much does it cost to fix/buy a new tranny for my 91 Honda Accord 5spd?

500-700 used. depends on how many miles are on the tranny or if its a rebuild. could be you clutch tho.

i don't think that the tranny could go bad just from spinning out of control but it might be ur clutch but most likely the shift linkeage. Oh btw the tranny should be around 300-400 if u do it ur self.

i've heard but cant verify that if one wheel spins too fast while the other just sits that problems can come up, i cant remeber what problems though.

Well, the transmission place just called. He said that my driver's side axle broke and my passanger side axle is leaking. SO they are going to replace both of them and it'll run me roughly $500 after taxes. So its not too bad. But i'm just wondering, HOW THE HELL DID THAT HAPPEN?!!? How in the world do i break an axle? That confuses me. I just replaced the the driver's axle about a year ago when the CV Joints were worn out! Weird...my poor, poor Old decrepid car....

i think he is talking CAD not USD. anyway that is weirdfor an axle to snap on that car. it's not long at all and the car does make only an eye popping 125hp with 140ft-lbs of tq

actualltt not so weird, your tire broke loose and prolly hit a good 80mph(remeber the spinning tire is moving twice as fast as the speedo reads) before catching traction, the shearing force the axle went under when that tire caught traction again is insane, that's what snapped it. $450CAD is fairly cheap, a Honda Reman Axle is $180USD
