Suggestions for getting the allen bolt out....
 

Well today RacingRice & myself decided to put my KONI Adjustables & Eibach Sportlines on. Apparently I was not meant to mod this car....

The passenger's side rear allen bolt(the one on the rod) is stripped. The thing that pisses me off is that it was already stripped. :mad: We didn't even get a chance to do it ourselves. We attempted to use an air ratchet to free it, but of course it just spun in place. WTF was Honda thinking when they came up with idea for a damn allen bolt?

Anyhow, I need some suggestions on how to get this thing out. The only parts I need off the strut are the rubber bushing and the cup that goes on top of the spring. I though about using a dremel and cutting a slot in it so I could fit a screwdriver into it. Do you guys have any other suggestions?

This might seem overkill..

But here's what I did once..

I soldered an allen key into the stripped slot. It worked fine..

I was even able to melt the soldering stuff off the key, so I didnt even have to waste that..


You could do that, or instead of soldering, use some type of mad ass strong adhesive..

Contact cement or a strong epoxy should be up to the task!!

Man.. thats not to bad of an idea... May have to weld it tho.. solder may not be stong enough..


I still say a strong Impact will probably do the trick..:yes: That one we were using was a little to small, plus we were using an air rachet, I seriously doubt that it had near enough torque on it..I shoulda brought my impact.. :o

That's what I would suggest. We do similar things with stripped screws in RC cars all the time. Go with that, might want to try welding it though. Otherwise epoxy or contact cement should work just fine.

You can take the car to midas and see if they can get the bolts broke loose at the bottom of the shocks, and we can try some of these other ideas for the top.. Just give me a yell if you want some help..:yes:

If I was in the same area as you guys, I get my ass over to his place and help you guys..

Plus, we could keep each other motivated better.. And get that damn screw outta its socket!!

What kind of solder did you use? I dunno if I have any solder that's that strong. How about JB Weld? That stuffs pretty strong.

RR, I almost bought an air compressor and impact wrench today. I found an impact wrench with 500 ft-lbs. I think that would do better than the 60 ft-lb air ratchet.

JB Weld works very well. Just make sure you get the slower drying version and let it fully cure. That should hold enough to get the bolt out.

You're not that far away. What's a few hundred miles......;)
