Suspension Suggestions???

I have around $500-600 to spend on my suspension set-up. I would like to have adjustable springs. Not "real" coilovers; that's out of my range. Maybe Suspension Package 4.

Minus the Skunk2 because I heard they were stiff.

I'd say one reason to go for adjustables is to be able to corner balance your car if you want. Also, you can raise for the winter.

Accord Man has a point though. You could get nicer struts (yellows) and just lowering springs for maybe just a little more than the package you picked out. Or you could just save money all together.

ok ok..

It is practical for winter..

But it might not be a very good idea.. If you live in an area where they drop alot of salt in winter..

Coilover sleeves tend to give out. Booom.

Yeah, I live where they drop a ton of salt. But they are changing to a liquid mixture this year. So what about some Koni Reds (yellows too expensive) and some Eibach or Neuspeed springs? How much of a drop can I have without rubbing or needing a camber kit?

IMO going too low isnt pretty at all.

So something between 1.5 and 2.0 is reasonable.

But.. What rims do you have.. I have memory trouble..

In theory, if you lower the car, then you need a camber kit.
Being practical, a drop more than 1.5, will require a camber kit.. If you want to preserve your tire and performance. Otherwise you'll survive quiet well with fairly frequent rotations.

OK, what do you think of this setup:

17" Konig Rhythms (already have)
Koni Red Shocks
Eibach Pro-Kit springs - drop of 1.3" (maybe more after settling)

They will settle much lower. I'd expect around 1.6, depending on whats in the car...

Humm, with that setup you could go with the KYB AGX.
Nicer.. But the Reds would be fine..


And you wouldnt really need a camber kit.

FYI, you might want to check out www.shox.com for prices on the reds. I know they sell the yellows for dirt cheap, so its worth a shot. After you get a quote from them, call them up and bargain to get a better price. I've heard of quite a few people doing that.

the same people whom push the BlowJax air cylinder ads in SCC and Super Street also sell an actual threaded shock body coilover system for about $550 - $650. and to tell you the truth, they are NOT that horrible at all, a friend of mine got his a couple weeks ago and they actually ride nice, i was surprised. especially for the price.

That's a good deal. I hope your happy with it. Just to tell ya, the pro kit is a VERY mild drop, possible not that noticable.

Strut bars are good, but sway bars will really help you with body roll. Eventually, you might want to get both. I'd at least pick up a Neuspeed upper front strut bar. They are only around $80 from shox.com and they should help considerably after you lower it.

Have any pics of 92-95 Civics with 17s w/ a 1.5" drop? Wanna see the difference from stock. What can you "actually" adjust on the KYB AGXs? I'll check into the strut bar.

The AGX allow you to adjust damping. The are externally adjustable allowing for fast adjustments.

In your opinion would you go with the KYBs and Eibachs or the Konis and some other springs. Now I'm worried about the drop since I might not notice it. I want to decrease fender gap w/o adjusting camber and rubbing tires. Recommend me a set-up.

OK, first of all, let me say that I'm sorry to have swayed your decision. If you don't want to mess with camber, get the pro-kit for sure. Or maybe some Neuspeed sports (i think they are ~1.5")

On Accords I've seen, the pro-kit just doesn't lower it enough IMHO. Let me re-phrase the "you might not notice it"... YOU will notice it, because you look at your car all the time. Most people want an aggressive look when lowering, and IMO, that doesn't give it to you. I'd go with closer to 2". You won't have to worry about rubbing if you have the correct offset wheels even with a ~2" drop, but you will need a camber kit to prolong tire life.

Are you talking about Koni yellows or reds now? If you are considering yellows, go with them for sure over any other struts you were considering. The reds have to be removed to adjust damper, so i'd get the AGX over those.

One more thing.... the pro-kit is soft, and might not give you the performance you desire, though it will be better than stock. If you are just cruisin, that's fine, but if you like to corner, you will need to look into stiffer springs, which will give you a harsher ride. Its always a trade off.

I've rambled on now, and it probably doesn't even make sense now Feel free to keep asking questions.

OK, the KYBs are a defenite right now. Now I'm just pondering springs. Camber kits cost crazy money ($175). Now it's just between the Eibachs and the Neuspeeds. I'm still leaning toward the Pros because it drop more than 1.3" after they settle. Do you know where I can find pics of 92-95 civic on 17"s with a 1.5" drop so I can get a idea.

Hmm... let me look around the net for some pictures.

If you are leaning toward the pro-kit, I really recommend going for it. If it suits your style, you can't beat it. They are of excellent quality and the price is right. You are also making a good decision with those struts. I've also heard good things about KYB's customer service.

I think that the reason I tend to give people other options is because I personally don't care about ride quality, and if I'm going to mod my car, I strictly want performance and bang for your buck.

Ok.. let me help you out a little... Prokits will set your car at a good height.. Thats what Im running with Koni yellows, The ride is almost stock feeling, very comfortable.. My wheels are +38 with wider 205/50 series tires, the front rub a little went I take a hard sharp turn, Im not sure 100% sure if a 40+ will or will not rub itll be close.. If you can find a 43+ you should be in great shape...

strut bars are your friend
buy the rear one first, the front bar wont really make MUCH of a difference for street driving.

17" wheels and a +40 offset......rubbing is a possibility on a civic. it might not happen with the prokit....but not all springs settle the same so, if it does settle a little more than usual your chances of rubbing will increase. +42 offset would be your best bet.

oh and the threaded shock body kit i was speaking of which is advertised along with the blowjax stuff.......the ride isnt too harsh at all....its a rather comfortable ride, they arent too performance oriented (which is actually the only reason im not buying them)like APEXi or Tein coilovers are, but for the price DAMN! not too shabby.

wheels come in various offsets especially if they are vehicle specific or at least car type specific. check any good wheel site and it should tell you the offset the wheels come in, if not, email them and ask. or even a local shop should have no problem telling you the offset. also, the same wheel sometimes can come in different offsets, be careful of that as to not get the incorrect offset.
