i just had this shop do a B16A2 swap into my 2k civic ex 5spd. Shortly after i noticed a small oil leak near the distributor. I told them and they said to bring it back up there and they would fix it no charge. After a week they still couldnt fix the leak. They said the only way to fix it was to either find someone with a blown head that would sell that part (slim chance) or buy a whole new head (dealers and Jyards wont sell the piece seperately = too much $$$$). The shop said they wouldnt buy a whole new head cause that would be too much $$$$. the piece i am talkin about is where the distributor bolts up to the head underneath the valve cover and hold down the end of the camshaft.

does anyone know where i can get just that piece???

is it true that that piece is matched to the head from the factory??

What part are you talikng about ? can you give me the number in the pic above ? (00 civic ex distributor shown)

it is the 99 civic SI engine (B16A2) that i have in my 2k civic ex 5spd. there are 3 bolts that hold the distributor to the head underneath the valve cover. It is leaking where the distribtor meets the head. ( where the end of the camshaft is held down)

maybe that o ring in the picture (#6) is the problem. i looked at the si dist and it looks the same. look for the other gaskest too. i know on my car somebody(dealer) put a lot of gasket maker, to stop the leak.

i think they said they replaced the o-ring.......and they tried some sealent they said was red in color and gave it enough time to seal but it never did. i might get them to try a different kind of sealent.

do that. i know i had the same problem when i replaced the oil pan. one sealand wasn't sealing, so i had to take the pan out and redo the work again. also make usre they use OEM gaskets, not some gaskets from the autoparts store. those tend not to seal completely.

y doesnt an autoparts gasket seal as good as the OEM gaskets?

well when i had mine replaced with an autoparts store gasket it leaked the hell out of it, then i went to honda dealer and got the oil pan and an oil gasket and here i am, leak free

generic brand replacement parts are too much "one-size-fits-all"... honda(and any oem) design replacements bits and pieces specifically for the use they're intended. i know they're more costly, but more often than not, it's worth the extra... i worked on cars for a short while and have friends that own an exclusive honda/acura shop... they swear by dealer parts, and they're the ones that have to do warranty work if they fail...

just my two cents...
