low-end torque

I'm just a bit curious, what would you any of you suggest for upping the low end torque in a 96 accord VTEC?

how about high-end torque?

A header isn't going to boost your low end much, if at all. Pulleys will give you a couple of hp down low, but all in all, there isn't a lot you can do without a lot of money.

Yeah, a DC ceramic 4-2-1. My butt dyno didn't really pick up much on this one, but then again, I'm running the stock exhaust. I think of low end around 2k, and I don't think that the gains are there with this header.

I got my exhaust and header at the same time so I guess that's why I noticed such a big gain. But you would notice it alot more if you got the whole I/H/E I have a chikara tork-step 4-2-1

Yeah, but a free-flow exhaust generally shifts the torque curve higher in the RPM band. I'm not saying you didn't notice gains, but they aren't too big.

do pulleys make much of a difference, I was looking at them on styledright, but I'm just wondering if they are worth it

I have an AEM set. They're ok, but I'd do I/H/E first. Better gains for the money.

Also, Honda Non-Vtecs are known for having a little more low end torque.

For a "torquey" engine, 3500 is about right for peak torque.

For a high-revving HP motor, 3500 is a little low in the band for peak.

My car suffers both from lack of peak torque and not enough torque under the curve.

my car has decent high-end torque (specially when downshifting is used) it's just that off the line bs that usually kills me, man what I would do for DOHC, and man if only I had the cash

Can it really, though?

Auto tranny weighs more and is less efficient mechanically regardless of how efficient the torque converter is. So then the only real difference I see that could make a difference would be the gear ratios and the drivers.

Or am I totally missing something?

yeah the price fell from around 900 to 500 now. i am most likely to get one in the spring.

and spooge: most of the tranny losses on an automagic come from the torque converter.

hey just wait till I get the cash for a H22 and turbo, I'll teach your torque converter a lesson or two, as if I could ever raise the money

Accord engines can have a turbo slapped on it right?

Shard: Yes, you could slap a turbo on Accords engine...cost around 3-4G for a level 1 turbo.

Hondaman: Where will you get your Level 10 torque converter from? Order from Level 10 itself or another place?

Stefan: Ok.

While we're on the subjects of turbos, anybody know a decent bolt-on supercharger or turbo kit for the 6th gen I4's?

i know fmax has one, and max rev does make one for the f series engines. i think i can get you the maxrev pretty cheap if you want.

Turbo or supercharger?

I'd rather put on a supercharger than a turbo, I'd have to think more about putting on a turbo.

I'd have to think a decent amount about any FI setup, though......depends on how much has to be done and what it all costs I guess.

as far as turbo's and superchargers go I'm alittle under unedumicated

what can a supercharger off more than a turbo? basically I'm asking pro's and con's for the SC

A supercharger has a much more linear power increase than a turbo since they are mechanically driven rather than through exhaust gases. Due to the exhaust gases and heats a turbo deals with, they are considered less reliable or of a shorter lifespan than a blower. Also due to the way the blower is driven, they do not suffer from turbo lag.

Personally I consider a blower to be a more useful component for daily drivers where you're only looking for a modest power boost. If you want drastic power bumps, though, you'll need a turbo. I'm not aware of any superchargers that really boost power drastically.

so what exactly would the power boost be if, say if i were to get a SC way down the road? what kind of gains would you estimate?
