Difference between VTEC and non

What exactly is the difference between the 2.2L in my car, and the 2.2L VTEC in the EX? If I bought a VTEC head, could I put it on my motor?

No, the VTEC head swap isn't feasible. The difference is econo-VTEC on a SOHC engine. 12 hp and around 15 tq is the only difference really.

Your going to make your car much more powerful with that head. Youd be better off to get some head work done. From my experiance there isnt much of a difference between vtec and nonvtec accords with the same mods.

That's just it, though, I don't want to swap in an H22, everyone and their cousin does that. I want to leave the F22, turbo it, all that good stuff, because there aren't a whole lot of people who seriously build the original engine.

Not a whole lot of people do it because its not the best platform to start with. Since you're planning on spending a lot of money, it seems like you'd want more power out of it.

I am not looking to go all out race, what kind of HP can I get from a well built and turbo'ed F22 compared to a well built and turbo'ed H22? I realize that the H22 is going to be much more powerful, given 70 more Hp to start with, and broader aftermarket support, but couldn't I get 275-300HP out of my motor?

I'm not a turbo expert by any means, but you'd have to seriously build the motor to get that kind of power out of it. You want to almost triple the output of the motor, and your lx is probably putting 100-110 to the ground right now. With money and time anything is very possible though.

Okay, maybe I should present this scenario: My basic goal is mid 13s. I am NOT stripping my car, in fact, I am making this tank even heavier with a couple subs, three TV screens, sound deading material, etc. So what kind of horsepower will I need to push my car to a 13.5?

i will give you 10 bucks(im poor) if you can make your f22 pull your heavy-ass accord with tons of sound equipment across the line in 13s.

and since 10 bucks is a lot of money to me, I'm not too worried about it.

Well, a heavy car will KILL your times. I think you need to decide either show or go, OR show and an H22A + mods.

If you are set on getting the Accord in the 13s, I suspect that your power goals are good enough, but you'll also need suspension, brakes, etc.

Obviously suspension and brakes are part of the plan, looking to convert to a big brake setup (AEM has a conversion kit for the Accord, don't they?). My tenative suspension plans call for Ground Control coilovers with Tokico shocks/struts. I don't really think 275hp should be that difficult, the way I see it, my car is 130hp at the flywheel stock, right? So by building it with the right pistons, good rods, cams, port and polished head, good header, exhaust, turbo and intercooler, I should at least hit 250. And then there's always N2O, the great equalizer. I better get two bottles, as a matter of fact. The big ones, of course.

lol, dude to push 250 hp out of your engine better have a deep pocket for building up the internals. for that you need at least 15 lbs of boost. and who said that you can have a header with turbo ???

Ok well it all comes down to how much $$$$ you have, any1 with alot of money will be able to get alot of power out of a motor but then ya have to ask yourself is it even worth it. Its kinda like putting a hugeass turbo on a 3 cylinder geo metro(not worth it), If u want to be unique try puttin a the 3.2 liter type S motor in your accord. I'm not tryin to put your idea down just trying to make you realize.

Header with a turbo? Yeah, #1, I'm half asleep, this graveyard shit is killing me #2, I don't know a whole lot about turbocharging anyway. Really though, say, for example, I put an Fmax turbo kit on my engine right now, without building it up at all. And my engine is STOCK, no mods at all. What kind of boost could I run, and assuming I am putting, say 100 hp to the ground, how much of a difference would it make? I know this isn't the same, but my cousin had a 91 Supra 6 cyl non turbo, Gtech said 160hp, he put a turbo kit on it, and Gtech said 242hp. Can I expect 80 horses from just a turbo, or probably more like 50-60? He didn't have an intercooler, either, and it is my understanding that a good intercooler does a lot for you. And can I even fit a TL Type S motor in this car? That would be cool, but maybe more of a project than I am looking for...

I would say if you got a turbo kit with no intercooler, 50hp seems about what you would get. I'm not real sure on the limits of the F22 block though, so i have no idea how far you could take it up to

Really, I should be able to hit 275hp with this motor then. If I can run my stocker at 9 psi and get even up to 190hp, then building it up and running 15psi should get me over 225, wouldn't you think? Then a free flowing exhaust, good intercooler, the right suspension, a set of drag radials, and a 50 shot of nitrous should (hopefully) land me in the thirteens. Gosh, now I wish I had all the money to make this happen NOW.

Heres some news for ya. In one of my import books. Honda/Acura Performance Sport compact car performance series. they have a accord that runs 13.3 @110mph. Heres the details.
F22 engine
Engine blueprinted and rebuilt with high performance products
Port and polished head
HKS Exhaust
K&N filter
turbonetics t3/t4 turbo
Increase in compression
untouched block,
rods polished, shotpeened, balanced and resized to match arias 10:1 pistons and rings.
AEBS Camshaft with JG cam gear
Custom turbo manifold so that you get the cold air intake effect
maniflod coated with hpc ceramic stuff
civic radiator
removed ac
bosch fuel pump for 600hp
cartech fpr
stock ecu and injectors
crane coil msd amplifier and msd boost timing control
ceramic clutch
249hp and 255 lb ft of tq on 92 octane @15psi msd timing at .9 for every psi of boost. 290 at the flywheel
Yeah so in other words you can get into the 13s with the fmotor and some time. This guy didnt have much money but he just saved it doesnt say how much it cost. Just letting you know it can be done without nitrous help.
