What size subs do you prefer?!
Personally I wouldn't go with anything smaller than 10's..
I very much enjoy the deeper bass. You know that low rumble you don't know where its coming from. No punchy bass for me.. Currently I'm running 12's.. Next setup will probably be 15's. Hopefully I'll have the available space to do so. So what size subs rock your world? And why!

I prefer 12's. 15's will take up to much room for me. I really never expected to get 3 12's. But it is better than 2 15's. Either way, I love my JL's.

I've had 10s 12s 15s and nothin makes more difference than 15s. I had 2 JL twelves, and they were nice and all, but they didn't make much difference from some good tens or twelves. when i put in my 2 fifteens...whoah. I'll never go smaller again. They just beat relentlessly.

I hear ya!
I also love the thunderous low sound produced by 15's.. Oh well, I'll have to wait a while. Cause it barely makes 5 months that I'Ve had my current system.. :o

Bro lets take it easy..
I'm 19, full time student.. Work part time as a piano teacher. = Very slim cash flow! Already I consider myself very lucky to have what I have. Pimped 97 Accord.. Honnestly I dont think I'll be switching any time soon.. But when its time, I'm going for 15's.

doable yes..
but there are so many other things I gotta do for the first.. ground effects, suspension upgrade, more motor work... Plus you have an advantage on me.. You live in the states, where you could get car audio for so much cheaper. I envy you guys for that. Overe here, everything is so damn expensive..

10's aren't deep enough and 15's require to much space for muddy bass. Stick with the 12's. I have a pair of MTX Thunder 8000 12's running off of a 600 watt amp and most people think I have 15's in the car! Just use a ported box on your 12's!

Ok boys lets not get too fired up..
*What size subs do you prefer?!* is the title of this thread. So Phatb likes 12's ported. 93chrome likes 15's. You guys will never agree on which size is ideal.. Different interests/existentiel factors to consider.. Phatb: people probably say that because you drive a hatch. but if those same peeps have heard 15's in a similar hatch.. they wouldnt be saying that. 2 subs of comparable quality. 93chrome : I know you like that deep *earthquake* like rumble.. like me.. So for that, the 15's are definately better. But what about for tighter/cleaner sounding bass? the 10's will proabably murder 15's..

WHAT SIZE
HEY HERES SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT. I THINK IT DEPENDS ON THE TYPE OF MUSIC. 10S ARE NO GOOD FOR REAL LOWS WHILE 15S ARE TOO SLOW FOR OTHER TYPES OF MUSIC. IVE GOT SOME FOCAL 27V MODEL WOOFERS. 27CM (YES IM IN EUROPE) IS 11 INCHES. IVE GOT 3 DUAL 6OHM WOOERS WIRED TO A 4 OHM LOAD RUN BY A CADENCE A7 AMP(500 WATT.)THEY DO A GREAT ALL ROUND JOB. THE DEALER HAS FOCAL 33 WOOFERS (13 INCH) THEY KICK ASS. THEY GO LOW AND PUNCH HARD.

nice gear
thanks for the "nice gear" comment. ive also got a caddence a4 amp running 4 6.5 inch focals up front and 2 tweets. i had a pair of 6x9 focals around back but they messed up my soundstage, so out they went. i had a jeep before with some fosgate power12's
they hit like a damn barnett .50cal rifle, but i had too many prob. with the fosgate amps.:: shame. what are you runnin? |

its the second post of that thread.... I would have prefered a pure SQ setup, but its hard when you're 19 years old, full time student..

Whoa dude! Let's get one thing straight here. The only hatch I would EVER drive would be a CRX. You should re-read my specs. I drive the 2 door coupe. But I am not saying which ones are better. I would love to have the boom of a couple 15's, but I am not willing to give up that much extra space, shell out the tons of extra doe for a huge amp and the subs. I am just saying that you can make a couple of "GOOD" 12's sound like 15's but with keeping your trunk space and saving some cash. I do love the sound of 2 JL Audio 15W6's in my friend's eclipse. WOW! |

15's are ok but indeed they need just alittle to much space and box for my likings of rides...
12's I'ce normally run and have alot of good outcome w/ them. I'm now experimenting w/ a 10 but I might up that to 3-10's in a fabricated box in the spare tire area... 12's or 10's... SPL ALOT of 12's or 15's....:: |

WHAT SIZE
YO GUYS GIVE ME SOME ADVICE. IVE GOT 3 11" FOCAL WOOFERS. (YES 11",FRENCH PEOPLE ARE FUNNY LIKE THAT.) IF I MAKE MY BOX A LITTLE BIGGER I CAN FIT 3 13" FOCALS. THE GUESTION IS, NOW I CAN GET SOME NICE QUICK BEATS OUT OF MY SYSTEM,(FOR LISTENING TO WHITE ZOMBIE)BUT NOT TOO MUCH LOW STUFF,BELOW 40hz. IF I PUT IN THE 13'S, CAN I GET LOWER WITHOUT LOOSING THAT QUICK THUMP? (BOTH ARE IN A SEALED BOX.) :: ::

For that type of music, you should stick with your 11's (whoa, that felt weird, 11 :o )
Even though in a small sealed box, the difference wont be extreme, your current setup will play cleaner. fidelity..

With the proper engineering, R&D, and manufacturing, a well made 12 (Perfect) can hit just as hard as 2 12s or even a 15, all things being equal. Simply stacking cheap magnets doesn't cut it for me, and going to the unreal extreme with things like a 22" woofer is not practical IMO, fine for show, no good for everyday drivin
BTW, I have no quibble w/ JL, I just feel the combination of fidelity and punch in the 12" Perfect is presently unmatched, woofer to woofer |

nah dawg dont take it like that!! In my daily driver I'd have SQ.. you know, for every day listening. But in my fun car, it would be 2 15 inch beasts.. The HCCA's were always a dream for me.. Many of my friends compete with these.. But they'Re sponsered and full of cash.. I'm not.. I need to have a loud system at my dispostion, just for the friday and saturday nights, when we bump hard. That day will come!
