*The page cannot be displayed* on yahoo site..

As the title says, on some yahoo site I get *The page cannot be displayed*..
Except when I use a proxy (when I use a proxy everything works..).

examples:
Launch.com, the first page loads, but when I click to go to a certain section it dies.. however the videos cas be accessed without a proxy.

Yahoo maps, same story as the prevsious..

Yahoo.com search, works fine..

I'm behind a Linksys Router (BEFSR41).. I tried using the DMZ host, and still the same..

it does that sometimes....when it happens, try refreshing....if not, might be something with the server or the settings on your computer.....

Your hardware firewall is decent alone. Really the only additional thing that Zone Alarm, etc. will do is stop programs from sending info out that you don't want sent.

Well, yes and no.

If you run Spybot every now and then (or Adaware, etc.) you should be fine. If spyware isn't communicating, anything else shouldn't be a problem IMO.

I think the main prob with spyware detecting software, is that some of the detected spyware you know you can remove.. but others are possibly linked to programs that require them to function properly.. without editing the app itself..

There are fixes for spyware that messes with the winbond. If you're talking about peer to peer software, then yeah, but other than that, there shouldn't be a prob. Do you have an example?

I just ran it.. roughly half of things it found are related to applications.. (windows, photoshop, reason, msoffice, etc..)

I pretty sure that most can be removed without messing up anything.. but some will probably stop the app from working.. no? or should I just go ahead and remove everything it finds (including windwos stuff)?!

It will auto check the spyware stuff. The other stuff it finds are things like recently used file lists, etc. that you don't need to delete.

Hmm... that seems very weird. I'm a proxy newbie, so I can't help you much there. Could it be that something is set to depend on the proxy, so when its not loaded, you get problems?

I could tell, but I'd have to kill you.

Rename the attached file to hosts (no extension) and replace your existing one.
C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc for Windows XP/2000

Enjoy...
Attached Files
File Type: txt hosts.txt (61.3 KB, 2 views)

For some reason Kazaa Lite attempts to route all requests for rd.yahoo.com to the localhost(127.0.0.1). I fixed that.

ALL programs that use name resolution (i.e - turning www.yahoo.com into an IP address), will look at the hosts file first before looking at your ISPs DNS provider.

So to answer it, I'm just that damn good.

Very nice C_A. I had Kazaa lite installed for a week or so before I removed it. I'll have to go change my hosts file. I remember messing with it before when networking linux/samba with win2k...
