Greddy SI Turbo Kit ???'s

Hey guys,

Eventually I'm gonna drop a B16 in my 98 EX. The price for the turbo and engine swap is roughing the same. Gotta a couple of ???'s though:

1) Is it possible to get the SI turbo manifold to fit on my EX? If so, I want to buy the turbo before the engine...

2) How much boost can the SI engine handle w/ stock internals? Intercooled?

i think your engine can safely handle 7-9psi depending on condition. i have no clue about the manifold thou

Yeah, a stock-internal'ed B16 can hold about 8 psi, assuming you're intercooled and all that. Any more boost, and I'd look into a Hondata ECU and lots of tuning to weed out any problems you might encounter due to the -- I believe -- 10.2:1 CR of the B16. Even with 8 psi, I'd still look into getting a good tuning job; that high compression mixed with boost just scares me!

The Si turbo manifold will not fit the D16. Why not just keep the single cam and invest the rest of the money in building the bottom end.

Build the bottom end, get yourself a Hondata and boost the crap outta that D16. If you really sit there and think about it if you build the bottom end and crank the boost on the D16 or do a swap and and run about 8psi on a stock B16 your numbers will be similar but you will have less of a chance blowing the D16 cause it will be built.

Just something to think about.

yea but how much will it cost to build the bottom end up? that gets expensive right...

Most definitely. it can get very expensive, depending on what brand(s) you go with and what you have done to your bottom end -- as well as who does the labor and if it's a shop who does it, how much they'll charge you per hour. Some shops charge more than others, so you might want to shop around if you'll be having a mechanic do it for you.

well heres what my buddy harrry did with his sohc. It was on our dyno and tuned perfectly.

Yes it can get very costly but if you think about it, the money that you waste on a swap will bring you near the price of getting your motor built.

The money that you invest now will save you much more in the future.
