modifying automatic transmitions

I have a 91 automatic honda accord and the acceleration is terrible. Everytime the light turns green I have to floor it for 5-6 secs before the car gets up to 30mph. Is there anyway I can fix it with out replacing the transmition? ie. changing a fuse in the computer?

I've never checked the transmission fluid.... could that be that much of a problem? The car has a sports option where if I press a button a green light with a "S" blinks on. I'm not sure if the car actually goes faster or if its just phycological.
