check engine--EGR valve

im tripping code 12, egr valve. ive herd to check my hoses, they all look fine, im not exactly sure where the egr valve is located, i know its on the intake manifold, but should i pull it off and clean it? or do i need a new one? also where is it located?

I think you just figured out your "black exhaust" problem. The EGR valve is bad, triggering a 'check engine' light, which is keeping your ride from going into 'closed loop' mode, e.g. running too rich.

When all your sensors are okay, everything is functioning correctly and your engine reaches normal operating temperature, it will run off the O2 sensor[s]. If one thing is not working correctly, it will run off of the 'fuel maps' programmed into your ECU only.

When you are running off the fuel maps, your ride will run like sh!t, no matter what you do. I'd fix the EGR valve, reset the ECU and go from there.

thanx man, now i just need to find it, how much would this hurt performance, cause i couldnt pull on my freinds dsm, u think it could help enough? he was just pulling on me like 2 or 3 mph faster than me.

I don't know what year H22A you have. This is what an EGR valve looks like on a '94 Lude.
