Techie Question
Posting here b/c i need a quick answer... I bought a Western Digital External HD yesterday, and it is fully USB2.0 compatible... however, I think my computer must only be 1.1, because it is transferring slowly... anyways, how can I determine if my USB is 2.0 or 1.1? If it is 1.1, how can I make it 2.0? Can I just buy a PCI card with USB outlets for 2.0 or do I need some kind of conversion of my motherboard?

you would have to buy a 2.0 USB PCI card to get 2.0 if you dont have it already

http://www.everythingusb.com/usb2/faq.htm
"the only way to see if your computer has usb 2 as compared to 1.1 is plug it in... if the drive doesn't work or if it only has a max speed of 4x then you do have usb 1.1 and you would need to get an add-on card that does have usb 2, or buy a new computer/motherboard that has usb 2" |
